'Because no-one else has come; because, as you say, we are no more or less than you expected; and finally, because if we leave, you have no way of knowing that there will be others.'
'Will you end this charade? Either hire us, or let us go.'

Selenya left the voice’s remark uncommented, especially since it was mostly true; Selenya indeed spent most of her life on Prime Material Plane, and although she has been fortunate to never face dragons, she have been in quite a few dungeons throughout her ten years of adventuring.
Selenya keeps quiet for now, silently thankful to K’Zan for taking the leading role in the conversation, as Selenya have never been much of a spokesperson herself.

But I'm having so much fun! exclaimed the voice in a deep baritone Why should I let you go from here with your lives, let alone with a job? The great Lucius Ferrick is not easily impressed. Prove it to me.

K'Zan clicks his tongue in annoyance.
'K'Zan does not dance at the whim of a coward who hides in the shadows.'
'Show yourself! Explain yourself!'

After thinking for a minute, he runs his hands through his hair as he seems to do out of habit when he has to think, "I have studied Baator for a while now and have good diplomatic skills when dealing with them. I can go into a battle rage if needed. Lets see, I can see and attack anything invisible or ethereal, and I have against with the Astral Dreadnaught, Kyriashikklon."

Spec rolls his eyes.
Ignoring the others, Spec speaks to Lucius, "Great...Lucius Ferrick," Spec bows deeply, then proceeds, "I have been sent to you for the purpose of obtaining a portal key to the Outlands. Can you be of assistance?"

The voice giggles with intense pleasure.
You're even more leatherheaded than I thought! I'm almost feel like locking you three up for all eternity as entertainment. the laughter dies down as he listens to what Spec has to say.
You want a key, hmm? To the Outlands, no less? That isn't exactly the easiest thing to procure. What can you do to make it worth my while?

Interesting... said Kaygor, jotting it all down in an exotic shorthand and stuffing the paper somewhere into his frame We'll classify you as a dedicated weapons specialist and survivalist with limited magical ability. The nature of our mission will require more talent than this...
A multifaceted, complex ring attached to the modron's frame springs down over his left eye, turning and focusing. He focuses the eye on Canderous.
Hmm, just as I thought. We'll need to recruit professional mercenaries...
He thinks to himself momentarily and then stands up
Excellent. We will move out in 6 hours. Come back to this tavern when you're ready. Remember, we will be going to Ribcage and possibly Baator - be prepared.

"Great Lucius Ferrick..." Spec bows low yet again, "Surely a key to the mere Outlands is an insignificant toy to obtain...to such a great one as yourself." He states sweeping his arms wide apart. "Not like a key to the darkest hells or the mighty mount of the devas... I, a mere simpleton, have not the great knowledge, such as yourself, of this simple task. For you to bestow upon myself this wonderous request would leave me in awe of your greatness indeed." Spec kneels down on one knee with those words, keeping his head to the floor and his senses to his surroundings.

Canderous nods and gets up and heads back to the bar. Having no other money, he sits back and pays attention to what goes on around him.
In such a case years ago, he would have taken offense to what the modron said about his skills, but after seeing what the Planes had to offer, he undertsnads that he is not the best nor the brightest.

The ominous voice cackles with laughter for a full minute before replying.
I like you tiefling, you interest me. it said, still stifling back a few chucles However, I have no need for a patron. Luckily for you, I will accept you as a subordinate.
As for you, githzerai. I have a job for you and your woman. Pathetic as you may be, you may still prove useful. Step into my lair.
As he utters the last few words, the shimmering brightness around you suddenly dies away, leaving you again in the condemned house, back in Sigil. This time, however, a small portal, two feet wide or so, has appeared in the ground. The aperture is pitch black and seems to warp the objects around it, pulling and stretching them beyond what natural laws might suggest to be possible.

Spec steps between the other two, stepping past them and into the portal without a word.

Although Selenya didn't enjoy being called pathetic or being bluntly refered as K'Zan's woman, she didn't hesitate to step through the portal after K'Zan.
