Selenya gave Faniel’s words a quick consideration. ”It IS possible that there is a good reason not to keep light in here, a reason besides his dowish dislike for light.” She realized. Although Selenya hated to needlessly lose her prepared spells, she had to admit that there seemed to be a need this time.
”Dispelling!” Selenya said, making a few gestures over the top of her staff…
[OOC:]
I am casting a targeted Dispel Magic spell aimed at my Daylight spell. Since the Daylight spell was casted by myself, I cannot fail to dispel it.
[/OOC:]
…And instantly, the bright light was gone, casting the corridor into a total darkness.
However, Selenya was not going to remain blind in the darkness. She made a few gestures and said, ”Eye of Darkness!”
[OOC:]
I am casting Darkvision spell upon myself, which will allow me to see 60 ft. into non-magical darkness in black and white colors only. Note that this is not 2nd edition Infravision, and it is not based upon heat patterns of creatures and objects, so I can see in the darkness just perfectly (aside from the lack of colors), despite the heating of creatures and objects in there. Casted at my level of power, this spell will last for 12 hours.
[/OOC:]
…And instantly could see in the darkness, even if only in black and white colors.
Assuming that everything went well, Selenya proceeds forward, moving as usually slightly behind K’Zan.

*Piper, feeling very exposed and uncomfortable, decides not to get anything from the caferteria, and turns and walks out of the place. Instead, she decides to see if she cannot find the group that is heading up to Ribcage, and hopes of finding a way of returning home*

Piper looks around for a short while, but can't make heads or tails of the situation. From random conversations she listens in to, it seems as if the group has already left, but without any specific information, she seems lost.
Within moments of having that thought, though, she spots Naylo leaving a nearby tent. A beautiful woman in a flowing dress and a bald, very tough looking man follow him.

*Spotting Naylo, Piper walks over towards him to see if she can find out any information on the party that just left for Rigcage, and if she can find them*
Excuse me Naylo, I see that you are busy, but I am seeking a group of people who left for Ribcage, and was wondering if you know anything about them.

Naylo looks over to Piper and walks towards her, his companions staying behind.
Them? They're off on dangerous business. Its no place for an inexperienced body like you to be going. he said, reassuringly Besides, Ribcage is locked down - no one can get in. That group is made up of professional adventurers using a dangerous channel: you should probably forget about it.

*Piper looks at Naylo and frowns* I may be new to these lands, but I assure you I can take care of myself. If the group has managed to find a way into Ribcage, I must find a way to get to them.

Naylo gives an indignant laugh
You may have a toned and muscled body that's good for fighting, but its knowledge that keeps you alive in the Outlands. You seem to be resourceful in a bind, but at any rate, its your funeral. You want to join them? Here. said Naylo, removing a small wooden box from his tunic and tossing it to Piper If you can find a way to open that box without damaging it, you'll find the information you need inside.
Naylo turns and walks away, returning to his companions.

The box that Naylo threw to Piper is a 3 inch cube made of a dark, hard wood. It is completely sealed and there does not appear to be any lid or hinges. On the outside faces of the box are carved 6 odd-looking symbols.

*Piper looks down at the box in confusion, as she has never seen anything like this before. Tracing the symbols with her fingertip, she feels like Naylo has just handed her Pandora's box. Since the smith is the only "friend" she feels she has made in this land, she thinks of going back to him to ask him if he has seen a box like that, and if he knows what the symbols mean. With her decision made, Piper turns and walks back in the direction of where the smith is*

Piper finds the smith easily, beginning to get a good feel for the run of the camp.
How blows the wind, Piper? greets the smith Couldn't stay away from the forge for too long, could you? he adds with a grin.

*Piper smiles at the smith's greeting*
Hello, and you seem to be the only friendly one I have met so far in this encampment. I went looking for that group that was heading for Ribcage, and ran into Naylo and asked after them. He said they have already left, and handed me this little box. He said if I could find a way to open the box without damaging it, I would find the information I need to get to Ribcage, but I have never seen anything like this or those symbols on it, and was wondering if you could help me? Please?
*Piper hands the smith the small box*

The smith takes the box and looks it over
Its easy to find unique things here on the planes. This box here is one of them. he says, peering over it If Naylo gave it to you, then he probably made it himself, or worse, had that monster Faniel forge it. You're gonna have to figure this one out yourself; I'm just a smith.
He hands it back to Piper with a shrug of his shoulders.

*Piper takes the box back from the smith and looks at him with frustration in her eyes*
Damn Naylo, does he have to make everything so hard? *she says more to herself than the smith* He frusterates me so bad I want to kick him, but thank you for at least taking a look, and I'll not bother you anymore.
*Piper walks away from the smith, looking for a quiet place where she can sit and try and figure out how to open the box*

Piper wanders about for a while and finds a free patch of ground near one of the outdoor training arenas. A few platoons are practicing unarmed combat drills, viciously breaking stone practice dummies with their palms and fists. Piper sits down in the shade of a tent and looks over the box in more detail.
The box is not perfectly smooth, as you once thought. In fact, each of the edges is grooved, with perhaps enough width to fit a thumbnail. You also find a vague familiarity with the symbols on the cube, though you can't quite put your finger on what it is.
