Continued from page 4.....
A sharp hiss suddenly permeates the tunnel as a large spider, with a body as long as Spec's, slowly begins descending down the string holding Spec's arm in the air, its mouth merely a few feet away from his hand. A small drop of thick ichor falls from its mouth down the string, tickling Spec's fingers with anticipation. It remains a full 10 feet in the air, but unfurls its front two legs: two disproportionately long appendages ending in vicious-looking, barbed hooks. Reams of string are wrapped around the upper parts of its front arms, manipulated by its second set of legs almost like a puppet-master controlling its puppets. It pulls hard on one set of strings, and the cobwebs surrounding the pile of stakes are immediately pulled away, revealing ingeniously laid string allowing it control of the sharp, five-inch wide wooden objects.

With a whip-like motion, five stakes fly from the pile towards Spec at phenomenal speed. Spec twists and turns with the reflexes afforded to him by his training, but apparently not enough. Two stakes fly past him, embedding themselves harmlessly into the stone wall behind him. One flies straight into his thigh, causing a clear squelch as the sharp point splits the soft muscle and scratches at the bone. Two others fly directly at his armored torso, piercing the leather and stabbing six inches straight into his abdomen. Blood flows profusely down his leg and down his stomach, proof that action will have to be taken fast to make sure he doesn't die of blood loss.

Another arm pulls strongly and 8 deadly stakes fly through the air directly at Canderous, completely bound and spread-eagle against the wall. Time seems to freeze as Canderous sees his apparent doom approaching: 8 wooden daggers prepared to blast against his face, arms, and legs; all in seeming betrayal of his training. It is then that Kaygor, looking straight at the spider, suddenly bursts to life and leaps towards Canderous. Gears whir to life in Kaygor's frame as he lifts his thin arms before him to ward off the fast-moving stakes. His face remained unchanged, though strong determination was evident in his features. Not enough. One stake slid down across his arm and buried itself into the wall near Canderous's left arm. The seven others hit Kaygor square in the chest, ripping large holes in his armor and penetrating his metallic skin, throwing him hard on the ground. Thin liquid begins to pour freely from the wounds, covering his body in mere seconds. His body remains on the floor, totally motionless.

Comepletely taken by surprise by all that has just happened, tries his best to grab his dagger from his wrist sheath and get out of the restraints before another wave of spikes come.
The fact that he had already lost one and may soon lose another person in a group under his control brought him back to a place he had hidden in himself. Uncontrollable anger came up and he just wanted to destroy this spider being. Not to save himself, not out of hatred, but for all the people who has had die.

Folly... should have realised... trap... web... darkness...
With a last, hopeless burst of energy, K'Zan shouts out:
'We need light!'
...and hopes he hasn't made another terrible mistake.
He slumps back as the blood rushes into his head, and mutters an old githzerai mantra about the nature of death.

(ooc: I'm assuming I'm still living, at least...and concious...? lol)
Spec grits his teeth and roars in agony as the stake pierces his leg, then his breath is knocked out of him as the second one hits. He looks up at the beast above him sneering...
(he'll attempt to do one of two things: 1) If any/enough coals/embers were lit he'll use his pyrotechnics ability to blast fire right into the spider's face. 2) He'll try to reach for one of his daggers and cut the thread stuck to him.)

As Selenya is knocked back, taken completely by surprise, she suddenly losses hold on her staff, letting it fall to the floor as she is pressed to the wall by three threads. Only then Selenya suddenly realized what a fool she has been, thinking that everything is going to be just fine and going into a battle unprepared like this.
But it seemed like it was too late to regret… Or was it? Her hands were free, and she still had some strength left for spellcasting…
'We need light!' Selenya heard suddenly, and when she searched for a source of the cry she saw K’Zan who still hangs helplessly from the ceiling.
For a moment, Selenya was unsure what to do; she couldn’t cast any light-producing spell at the moment, and only with her staff could she create a permanent source of light. But then, out of the corner of her eyes Selenya saw injured Spec and a spider-like creature that was descending upon him, and there was no more time for tiredness or hesitation.
”Still!” Selenya shouted, making a gesture with her right hand before pointing at the spider-like creature, hoping to paralyze it. Selenya knew of the danger of spider-like creature falling down onto Spec even should her spell succeed, but with spider-like creature being so close to Spec, she couldn’t think of any other way to prevent the spider-like creature from harming Spec even more…
[/OOC:]
I cast Hold Monster spell at the spider-like creature that descended upon Spec. I suppose there is little need to describe the spell’s effect to anyone, especially since I believe they remained pretty mind unchanged since AD&D, but still…
The subject freezes in place, standing helpless (thus, exposed to Coup de Grace). The subject is aware and breathes normally but cannot take any physical actions, even speech. The subject can, however, execute purely mental actions (such as casting a spell with no components).
By the way, I myself do not need a material component for this spell because I had it memorized with Eschew Materials metamagic feat.

As all of you respond to the shock of the attack, a sudden movement on the ground catches your eye. A large patch of dirt, ingeniously designed as a trap door bursts open beneath K'Zan. As the githzerai struggles with his bonds, another large spider leaps from the trap door, grabbing onto him with its two talon-like claws, digging them like daggers, deeply into his back. It brings its 4 inch long teeth directly onto K'Zan's torso, wrapping its other legs around his body, and bites deeply. K'Zan feels a sharp gust within him as the spider injects a dose of poison into his system. He feels the venom coarsing through his system as he thrashes about to no abandon, causing the monster to weaken its grip. With a great crash, both K'Zan and the spider fall to the ground; the spider on its feet, and K'Zan free of his bonds.

As K'Zan's battle raged, the spider above Spec leered at him with 4 eyes, focusing on his head. Shimmying down the string, it lunged towards the tiefling's head, digging both dagger-like fangs into the back of his neck, just missing his spine. Spec feels a sharp pain as a thick liquid flows from the spider directly into Spec's bloodstream. Anger flares up within him, causing his skin to emit a slight glow. As the spider reaches down with another hook to eviscerate the tiefling, a forceful gust of wind passes over it, causing it to freeze suddenly, unmoving. The cry "Still!" echoes through the cavern as Selenya's magic coarses into the monster, saving Spec in the nick of time. The tiefling thrashes out with his dagger, cutting through the silk string that entangles his hand and into the spider, causing it to fall to the ground, through barely injured.

Canderous, thoroughly entangled, is absolutely helpless to do anything but watch as K'Zan's blood flows freely over the ground beneath him. Motivated by a sudden rush of adrenaline, he reaches down with all his might, and is able to snap one of the strings holding his arms, giving him just enough slack to get a loose hold of his dagger. Canderous's instincts flare up suddenly as he feels movement coming from along the ceiling. His eyes are momentarily averted as he sees signs of life coming from the modron laying at his feet.

K'Zan struggles to pull himself up onto his elbows, and holds out one palm towards the creature. He shouts out four alien syllables, and two bolts of pure magical energy shoot towards the thing.

Out of the corner of her eyes, Selenya saw another spider-like creature leaping towards K’Zan, even as she was casting her spell, but she forced herself to pay it no attention. Now was a critical part, and Selenya knew that should she error, the results will likely be fatal. For a few seemingly eternal moments, the rest of the multiverse fade away for Selenya, only her target remained, even as it moved to finish Spec off. And then… it froze! Her magic worked!
Selenya wanted to breathe out a sigh of relief, but she knew that she couldn’t allow herself even this small a hesitation, not with K’Zan fighting for his life even now.
She turned to K’Zan only to see him already on the ground, facing his spider-like opponent and in process of casting a spell.
Selenya didn’t had to consider her options, for she already knew that she couldn’t release her most powerful spells without harming her companions, and therefore, there was only one option left for her…
”Knives into heart!” Selenya shouted, pointing with outstretched fingers of her right hand at K’Zan’s opponent…
[OOC:]
I am casting old good Magic Missile spell; at my level of power it will create five Magic Missiles (1d4+1 points of damage each) – all aimed at the spider-like creature that attacks K’Zan.
And assuming that nothing will interrupt my spellcasting (otherwise, just delete the following part of my post)…
[/OOC:]
…And the next moment, five silvery-white bolts of magical energy shot from Selenya’s fingers at the spider-like creature that attacks K’Zan…

Spec thuds to the ground painfully. He reaches his hand to the back of his neck with a wince and pulls it away revealing a mixture of blood and some other liquid on his hand. He looks at the frozen spider form next to him and takes out both daggers and proceeds to dig them into the sides of what would appear to be its head then turns towards the others to guage the situation, watching them cast their spells.
