Selenya nodded in acknowledgement to Spec’s words; a pile of wood for a campfire, which they encountered just when they planned to have a rest and needed a continual source of fire, seemed to appear too timely to be a mere coincidence.
”Be careful, Spec.” Selenya said quietly when Spec started to slowly move towards the pile of wood. ”It can be a Mimic, or something equally dangerous.”
Although worried for Spec’s safety, Selenya makes no move to join him, knowing that should something attack them, she won’t be of any use in melee confrontation now, when she is so tired. However, Selenya watches Spec’s movements and suspicious pile of wood carefully, intending to warn Spec should she notice some kind of trap or ambush, and perhaps even try to provide some assistance to him with her magic.

Spec approaches the pile, searching intently for traps. He scoured the floor and walls for minutes, but was unable to find any dangerous surprises, so moved over to check the pile.
The pile of wood is not the remains of a campfire, which would be dangerous to maintain this deep underground, but appears to be a neat stack of thick stakes or pitons, with a sharp metal wedge and hammer lain amongst them.

Spec waves everyone over letting them know it's safe. He looks up to see how high the cieling is here, or if there's a place for smoke to escape. Then sifts through the pile...

Seeing that there seem to be no danger, at least not immediate, Selenya moves to join Spec. Selenya moves slowly partially because of her tiredness and partially because she is still wary about some kind of trap or ambush; K’Zan’s words “We don't seem to have moved much at all” are still ringing in Selenya’s mind and she cannot shake off the feeling that something is wrong in this place.

Spec sees a large hole in the ceiling, about 3 feet wide, not too far away from the pile of stakes. The stakes seem to be a very standard piece of adventuring gear, and are lain out almost as if they were part of a larger store. As a matter of fact, looking around, the alcove in which you stand seems large enough to be able to hold a small stash. The stakes, however, seem to have been here a long time, and are now covered with dust and cobwebs. You notice few wisps cobweb hanging down from the hole in the ceiling, quivering lightly, as if affected by a wind.
Selenya, while looking around the alcove, spots a set of small, shiny objects laying in a small, wide fissure in the alcove's ceiling, near the mouth.

Canderous keeps watch, looking for anything that maybe watching, waiting for a perfect opportunity to take him and his group by surprise.

Spec sets his pack on the ground. After rummaging through it for a few moments he takes out his flint and steel, and prepares to set up a fire by taking some of the stakes and propping them against one another to form a teepee, then attempts to get a fire going. "I suggest we make ourselves comfortable. Although not too comfortable. We'll need to set watches as we rest."

K'Zan turned suddenly, as if hearing something in the tunnels.
'Spec... we've got company.'
'Vargouilles, I think. A pack of them.'
K'Zan steps back behind the pile of stakes, and stands ready with his staff.

Spec's head snaps in the direction K'zan motions to. He looks at the camp hoping he got the fire started in time... He grimaces,"Damn...not yet...!" He continues to try to get the fire at least started before they get there.

As Spec continues fudgeting with the woodpile, something within it catches his eye and he begins slowly reaching within the pile...

[OOC:]
I am completely changing this post of mine because of new information provided by the DM.
[/OOC:]
Selenya was about to point out her discovery to her companions when…
“Spec... we've got company. Vargouilles, I think. A pack of them.”
Selenya sighed as she saw K’Zan stepping behind the pile of stakes; he sure was making a big deal out of nothing. After all, she fought Vargouilles before and knew that this fight will be piece a cake comparing to some other things she faced recently. But still, even the simpliest of fights needs to be fought before it can be won...
Taking her time, Selenya put down her backpack; no matter how easy the fight will be, it simply wouldn’t be practical to fight with extra weight behind her shoulders. Afterwards, Selenya turned to the direction K’Zan was looking at, leaning slightly upon her staff. She still felt tired, but it did little to diminish her optimism.
Already calm, Selenya concentrated on recalling some of the spells she memorized just before her arrival to Sigil. It wasn’t as easy as she thought it will be, but eventually the spells came into her mind. ”And just a short while ago I thought I was too tired to do any serious spellcasting!” Selenya thought, smiling confidently.
For a moment, Selenya toyed with possibility of protecting herself with a nearly invisible shield of force, but she quickly dismissed this idea; this fight was surely going to be an easy one and there was no need to waste extra spells to protect herself against such a minor threat.

Canderous is the first to notice it. The threads he sees blanketing the floor and encircling your feet quiver momentarily and then tighten and pull with a powerful force. Canderous, in his attempt to sweep them away and focus with his eyepiece, was caught completely off-guard by their sudden movement and is launched into the tunnel wall behind him, arms splayed apart. He feels himself lying against a wiry, gooey substance, totally unrecognizable until a sudden burst of intuition reveals to him that it is, in fact, an extension of the strings that encircled everyone.
K'Zan and Selenya, focused on the tunnel ahead of them, listening intently to the sound of vargouilles approaching, while both sleepy and tired, are distracted, and don't feel the loops constricting around their limbs until it is too late. K'Zan, paying single-minded attention to the sounds in the distance, is pulled towards the ceiling of the tunnel by his feet, a long strand of uncannily strong string binding his arms to his sides. Selenya, not paying full attention to the sounds and in a sense of semi-euphoria, is knocked back to reality as her perfect vision notices the creeping movements a split second too late. Three threads pull tight against her body, securing her legs and hips to the rock wall behind her, but leaving her arms wide open.
As Spec grasps at the cool object within the pile of stakes, it lifts up to meet his grasp, feeling dense and gooey, and sticks fast to his hand. With a jerk, it begins to pull his hand upwards towards the small tunnel above Spec. With his powerful reflexes, Spec tugs hard on the object, refusing to be lifted into the tunnel above him, and manages to stop it in time, though one hand is still suspended high in the air, just short of causing him to lose his balance.

The tunnel suddenly goes dead of sound, the threads tightening silently against your bodies, and going taut on Spec's hand. The sound of approaching bat wings suddenly disappears from K'Zan's mind, almost as if a switch was thrown off in his ears.
