You see an unusual site as you continue through the ruins. A group of half-orc farmers are congregating in a muddy field, which is penned in by a series of run down shacks. They all watch intently as a play of some sort is acted out in their midst. Three of them are hidden under a massive greyish blanket of sewn together cow hide which serves as a costume, and lead around by a fourth, who carries a stick which supports the "head" of the costume. The head resembles something between a boar and a bull, and looks like its been crafted out of cloth and hay. Two others carrying lit torches and spears dance around the outside in a sort of "hunt" as they build up to the eventual climax where they slay the vile beast.

Brun "Well, I'm going to have to run this shipment to our dealer out here. Lorna, don't go off and do anything foolhardy until you now what you're up against as far as this cult is concerned, alright? Religious groups like this can be dangerous, especially if they're as fanatical as I think this one might be. Let me drop off these kegs and do some asking around, and I can come around and meet up with all of you at the local watering hole."

Melisendra eats the last of her food and uses a napkin to dab at her mouth. She looks to the others at the table and speaks in a firm but kind voice, "I stepped off on the wrong foot last night. It seems we have been brought together, none of us having much afore knowledge about what was going to happen. I apologize for my quick judgment and short temper.”
She takes a deep breath, weighing her options before continuing, "My name is Melisendra… at least that's what Lubja has called me for as long as I remember traveling with him. He is a merchant and I his guard, traveling all over to sell his wares." She has an apologetic look to her, "I have no memory besides being a guard for Lubja. It is as though my memories have been erased. I have no idea why anyone would wish me harm, apart from the occasional Goblin or bandit."
"I don't recall ever having friends, and would sincerely hope that we could work at becoming such, although I understand if my actions lead you to be unwilling to do so." She holds out her hand in friendship to the others, her features softening as she smiles warmly to each, "Call me Mel for short, all my friends do."

Korbach smiles grimly, "Well met Mel. May the Fire light your path.
Our choices are somewhat limited I think. We do not know this city, nor do we have many contacts here. If we are going to find this cult, we are pretty much going to have to do it on our own.
Since we are obviously being watched, or at least Mel here is, we should also try to find somewhere we can hole up. Somewhere defensible with escape routes. While I like the idea of staying near crowds, last nights murder shows that our enemies care nothing for witnesses. Perhaps they simply have the resources to bypass watchers.
I think we need to get several things accomplished at once. First, we need someone, probably Brun, to check if that inspector is still in town. While he's doing that, we could head out and look for both somewhere inconspicous and for any of these yellow robed heratics.
Perhaps an idea would be for Mel, Johan, and myself to exit together while Hazivah follows us and keeps an eye on our backs. If they try anything in broad daylight, we fall back to this inn and hope the crowds will slow down pursuit."
Korbach looks around the table to see how his idea is received.

"Very good to meet you Mel, my name is Johan, dont take our reluctance personally, its the method of our employment and the overly secretive nature of Marek that bothers me not the task itself, i just can't help thinking he wants you protected more for his benefit than yours and were all caught up in fight between two forces we would want neither to win"
'i think thats a good idea Kor, we should also hock this vase and try to equipe ourseleves for trouble as best we can, cause we know its coming,,(takes a moment to look around the group,,noting especially mel's stiking hair and Kors supernatural tan,),,,maybe also a drastic change in appearence for us all would help through this white tower off a bit."

Lorna smiles a great big pearly white grin and puts an arm around Mel's shoulder. "Looks like we're in this together then, eh?" She then shakes her head a bit, as if a thought just hit her with the force of a Cuthbert mace swing, and jumps away from Melisendra a few feet to look in her eyes. "Wait...what was that name you said? Lubja? I just heard someone saying that name as I was coming back from the room....I had to get my things ya know. I think Lubja is the.....er was the name of the guy that got strangled in your room?!" Suddenly realizing the impact this revelation might have, her optimistic smile quickly drops for a more serious and stern look.

The breakfast was heavy, and greasy, and those of you that ate your food feel a little worse than if you had passed on it.
Brun kept to his light diet, and with an apple in hand, he headed out to take care of some errands, including finding Korbach's old associate from the Brotherhood of the Cudgel.
The eating hall is quite crowded for such an early hour, but with the number of patrons staying here, and the fact that the Inn's other 2 bar areas are closed off, it comes as no surprise. You all sit within site of the front doors, and can catch a glimpse of the sun as the doors are constantly thrown open, only to bang shut again as people pass through.
There is no sign of Marek.

The customers having breakfast;
At one table sits a group of heavily armed halflings. They seem to be locked in a serious debate, but their voices are barely above a whisper.
There is an orc sitting at the bar, barking and grumbling at the half-orc waitress/cook who is working the breakfast shift on her own.
Two men sit and talk loudly about some woman they both know. They are not using flattering language.
A woman in leather, with a crossbow hanging from her thigh sits at a corner table, and seems to notice everything going on. She also looks amused.
A drunk sits at the bar, talking to someone who isn't there. "We cudda bin rish, ah tell ya, cudda bin rish....."
Numerous other patrons linger about, filtering in, out, upstairs, and down as the group debates its course of action.

"I'm sorry to hear about your loss Melisendra, I understand you and Lubja went through much" says Hazivah.
"Lubjas death however shows how much in danger you are, and I hope you can feel comfortable with us."
"I'm Hazivah, the most agile of this bunch, or as some would say it," Hazivah smiles, "the rogue of the group. Don't judge me too fast though, because I care for friends and those close to me."
*to Kor* "I'd like to buy some arms first though, I got the cash right here"

Mel frowns “I am upset that Lubja died and I may in some way be responsible. I always thought his ‘less than savory’ trade dealings would be the death of him. But, as I said before, he was not my friend and we were about to take separate paths. What truly alarms me is that our mutual ‘associate’ may have had something to do with this. Both his messenger and Marek strongly encouraged me to part company with Lubja. I can’t help but wonder if they had something to do with this. What if this is their way of ensuring Lubja and I no longer traveled together, while pushing us into believing I am in danger? I am sure it sounds like paranoia, but I know nothing of Marek or what he may be capable of.”
She smiles, "You have an excellent plan, Korbach. Equipment would be best to have before looking for Lorna's mom.” She digs through her pack and hands two full pouches (total 300gp) to Korbach, “This should help with equipping everyone.” She removes a pouch at her hip and places it into her pack. “I can't say I won't miss having steady pay, but it is nice to have friends!”

scratchs his head for a bit "I'm confused, Lubja was not the man that you traded rooms with then, or did you just trade with the barkeep?, nevertheless the question begs as to how and why he was there, maybe he had something to tell you, maybe something about merak?,,,,I dont think your paranoid atall to supsect merak, its strange that if your so important he would leave you with the five of us as "bodyguards", yet if not then why all the trouble?" I think this bears seeing too aswell, perhaps we should split up, one group to look into this and another to serach around for the yellow robes,,after everyones finsihed eating and a bit o' shopping o' course ,,(finishes the last of the fuit he had been nibling at,,,and lends back on his chair,,,paying attention to whatever he can overhear around him)

Lorna "If we split up, I'd prefer to start sniffing around for clues about this cult. I've already got everything I need if trouble should arise (with this, she pats the hilt of her rapier) What do you think of this church of thought? Sounds kind of strange to me.....If Korbach's contact doesn't work out, maybe we should look into it?"

scratches his non-beard "yes the church of the mind sounds interesting, though I admit to me its more of a personal interest, I think we'll end up having a good look around just about everywhere,,,,learns in close, lets think about making a move guys perhaps?,,,,the trail grows ever colder and we'll definately be johnny come lately's by the time we get back, plus whether we are in fact being watched will proabbaly change our plans a bit."

Yes, let us be off. We can wander around the town and check out this Church of the Mind. Seems as good a place as any to begin looking.
((Can I get a Knowledge Religion check on Church of the Mind?))
A thought does occur to me. We seem to have some cash in our possession. While there are some things I could use, I think our first priority must be to help Johan here. I remember my deacon telling me that you arcane mages must gain your spells from books. Can these be purchased somewhere? Until you have access to some of these spells, I am thinking your use is somewhat limited if it comes to a fight.

(gets up, slings his pack over his shoulder and grabs up his staff)
Grins)Oh kor my friend I would luv to get my hands on a mountain of scrolls and spend weeks carefully transcribing each and ever letter into my gimorie but we dont have the time and I would expend our entire resources most directly, wizardry is an expensive pursuit, the book i lost cost over 2 and a half grand and that was just a beginners ,,,depressing as it is, i think my best choice is a stout spear and some light armour at the moment, though if we come by some hedge wizard offering cheap scrolls they would make good one off's,,(laughs) maybe those 1/2ork shamnons might be able to help me out. Thanks for your concern though. Perhaps a more equal division of monies would be best.
SO Brun were dose one go for cheap but reliable arms and armour in this burg.
