Kali Worship Spell Kalipuja, the great festival of Kali, the Hindu Dark Mother goddess, is today. Her mantra goes:
Maha Kali aum jaya.
Translated as “Victory to great Kali,” it is repeated over and over again by worshippers on this day. Worship is performed by standing or sitting in front of a statue or picture of Kali, and moving a small oil lamp in the air in front of you. With the lamp write the word aum in Sanskrit, while chanting her mantra over and over. You can make an oil lamp by twisting a bit of cotton into a wick, and placing it in a small heatproof bowl. Pout a little olive oil on it, and light it. Pictures of Kali and calligraphic versions of Hindu chants are available on the Internet, or in any store with imported items from India.

Deep Values Spell
Muslims believe Muhammad received the Holy Quran on this night, and also that now is the time when God determines the course of the world for the coming year. For a spell to promote deep values and ethics through the year, place a green candle on your left, a blue candle on your right, and a white candle in front of you. Set out two small bowls, one of salt and one of water, and light the green candle, saying:
By the power of the earth, the forests, the plants that make life-giving oxygen, I celebrate and honor all life this day. Sprinkle a bit of salt onto the candle flame.
Light the blue candle and say:
By the power of the oceans, the rivers, the rain and the air that carries lifegiving oxygen, I celebrate and honor all life this day. Sprinkle water into the second candle flame.
Light the white candle and say:
By the power of spirit, by the divine within me, by the spirits of my ancestors and my descendants yet to be, I celebrate and honor all life this day. Pour the remaining salt into the water, and stir clockwise with your right index finger, saying:
By all that is holy and all that is divine, I dedicate my powers to the earth and to Her creatures this day.

Attunement with Divination
Hecate is most active during this time of year. This goddess, usually associated with the dark Moon, can be called upon to lend her guidance in the understanding of and the use of divination tools. To call on her, light purple and black candles. Lay your divination tools in front of you. Speak these, or similar words:
Great Hecate, Goddess of prophesy, Let these tools speak clearly to me. Let me precisely perceive their messages. In your Honor, So mote it be.
Thank Hecate for her presence and her guidance. Please note that Hecate is a powerful goddess. When she speaks to you, she expects you to listen and follow her advice.

Lost-in-the-Dark Bells
Cast a protective circle, and light candles of blue, violet, and black. Close your eyes and relax your body into the gentle rhythm of your breath. Invite Persephone to guide you into the depths of your own underworld. Visualize her holding your hand as you wind your way down through dark ancient passageways. As images arise, keep breathing. These energies exist in your own shadow self, wherein reside aspects of your rejected identity—projected fears, attachments, addictions, and so on. Ask Persephone to help you heal that which needs healing. Be proactive in your meditation; visualize it happening. When you are ready to resurface, thank Persephone for her guidance, and slowly bring yourself back to consciousness.

Spell to Establish Stability in a Relationship
by: Kala Trobe
To establish some stability in an otherwise unstable relationship, light a brown or green candle and some juniper, frankincense, or neroli incense or oils. Picture yourself and your partner standing barefoot on grass, among green hills, embellishing as you deem fit. Maintain the image of your bare feet in contact with the earth, saying: "(Your lover's name), let no winds blow you away, let no fairy-lure tempt you, no charms ensnare you other than my own true love." Then, picture green shoots rising from the ground all around you, one of them becoming an ear of corn. Take the ear of corn and grind it to powder, saying: "Nurture what we have grown, that we may reap it together." Add to a cake, bread, or biscuit mix, and feed it to your lover. Repeat as necessary.

Wisdom of our Ancestors
You can find guidance to deal with difficult situations by accessing the wisdom of our ancestors. To do so, write out your perception of the situation on a piece of paper. Light white, black, and red candles, and cut an apple crosswise to reveal the five-pointed star created by the seeds. State these or similar words:
I send my voice across the veil To my ancestors who know me well. Guidance needed, Wisdom bequest; Answers given to aid my quest. Quiet your mind, and receive guidance. It may arrive immediately or over several days. Thank your ancestors, and offer the apple to them.

El Dia de los Muertos Ritual
El Dia de los Muertos, the Mexican Day of the Dead, is celebrated on this day, also called All Souls Day by the Catholic Church. The day is not one of mourning; rather, it is a celebration of the lives of those who have died. Why not celebrate the way Mexicans do on this day? Put a black cloth on your altar, as well as black, orange, and yellow candles, and photos of beloved dead. Marigolds are the preferred flowers; they should be placed on loved ones’ graves as well. Invite the ancestors in by setting places for them and leaving a glass of milk and some pan de muertos, or “bread of the dead,” outside the door. Recipes for pan de muertos and Mexican hot chocolate—traditional refreshments for this holiday—are easy to find in cookbooks, and in the Southwest many Mexican bakeries make these items.

Dream Journal Spell
As the Crone beckons us into the shadows at this dark time of the year, pay attention to your dreams and keep a journal and pen by the bed—otherwise you may miss a chance to take a deep inward journey. The Sun in Scorpio supports our soul’s journey toward authenticity and inte-gration, and this time of year is in fact perfect for exploring any mysteries that call to you. Honor the complexity and insight of your inner shadow. Allow your shadow-self to teach you what secrets it may. This season of thinning veils provides an ideal opportunity to develop your instinctive nature. Start this by writing down your dreams and by honoring your personal intuition and insight. Through the process of dreaming, our shadow helps initiate us into deep archetypal mysteries. Immediately upon awakening, write down all you can remember from your dream. This is important; avoid any usual patterns of behavior—such as rushing off to work or to the bathroom. Work to contain and control your inner mind by recording its images. Later, you will begin to work with the images symbolically to discover meaning.

A Bonfire Night Divination
In Britain on this night in 1605, Guy Fawkes’ plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament failed. Today known as Bonfire Night in England, this is a holiday for bonfires and fireworks to commemorate the thwarted Gunpowder Plot. The fire meditation that follows is a very suitable form of magic for this night. Find a quiet spot and intone these words while following their directions:
When you feel the need to inquire, Sit before the winter fire. Upon the flames, sprinkle yarrow, thyme, and marigold. With these, your answer will be told. Hold your eyes steady as you gaze Deeply into the dancing blaze; In the yellow flames, in the orange flames, Do you see an image, a face, or name? If the flames fail to speak, try again—but wait a week.

MjolnirH should especially like this spell.
Toast to Thor for Prosperity
Today is Thor’s day. Pour yourself a glass of grape juice, wine, or beer, and sprinkle it with some ground nutmeg. Hold the glass in both hands and visualize yourself with all that you need. See yourself happily paying bills and looking at a very healthy bank statement. Call to mind an image of Thor, the Norse thunder god, and his wife, Sif of the Golden Hair. Ask them to bless you with a large financial harvest and a fruitful life. Before you drink, toast the sky and earth, then pour a small amount on the ground as you say:
Hail Thor, Link between Heaven and Earth, Bringer of fertility and vitality, I thank you. Hail. Hail Sif, Golden-haired goddess of the ripening grain. I thank you. Hail.

Rope of Negativity Spell
Many times we carry negative ideas or perceptions around with us that can be easily sensed by others, preventing them from getting to know us. Now is the time to start getting rid of them! For this spell, pick three negative perceptions about yourself that you are ready to lose. Taking up a foot-length of cording or thin rope, tie a knot in it about one foot from one end. As you do so, focus on one of the perceptions you selected. Repeat the process at the two- and three-foot marks on the cord. Lay the knots on your altar until after the Full Moon, then take up the rope and slowly untie the knots. Say after you untie each knot:
I am now free of (name of problem). Remember to carry your new free attitude with you wherever you go.

Your Body Spell
The sign of Taurus is associated with the earth element, with our physical body, and with the pleasure we derive from our senses. This Full Moon is a perfect time to develop the sexual side of ourselves. If you have been feeling harried, excessively busy, and out of touch with your body, the Taurus Moon can help you relax and remember the joys and sensations of your physical being. For this spell you will need either jasmine or rose essential oil—pick your favorite. You will also need to wear earth-colored clothing of greens, browns, ochres, and maroons. On the Full Moon, anoint your throat and your heart with the essential oil, and then put on your earth-colored clothing. Find a quiet spot outside, or, if the weather does not permit, find a relaxing place in your home. Then sit down firmly on the ground, and touch your hands to the earth. Gently begin to breathe into your belly and then slow your breathing down. Start to enjoy the small sensations you feel. Listen to the sound of the breeze; take in the smell of autumn and allow it to course through your body. Feel the sensation of the air as it caresses your face, hands, and body. Allow your eyes to delight in the colors and textures of the land. Let your fingers dig into the ground and touch and caress the pebbles and dirt in your hands. This practice will help you to be grounded and remember your physical and sensual self.

Make Your Wishes Come True Spell
This magic ritual is performed in Thailand every year on this day. Start by making a small boat from colored paper, choosing the color of the boat to represent your secret wish. If you want to bring love into your life, make a pink boat; to bring more money into your life, make a green boat. Place a small offering such as a crystal, a coin, or a flower into the boat, and breathe into the boat your secret wish. When the time feels right, set the boat adrift in a body of water. Keep your wish secret or it won’t come true.
