Serious Communication Spell
Is there someone you have quarreled with, and you know you should make up to before the holiday season? Now is the time to do it. Start by asking yourself if you’ve had any particular communication problems lately. Is there some aspect of your discourse with people that is making you uncomfortable lately? If so, then tackle this problem today. After all, with the Sun in Scorpio, the Moon waning in Gemini, an air sign, and a Moon trine with Uranus, this is a good day for serious communication. Write that letter, make that phone call. Promise yourself a nice bubble bath, an hour of computer games, or a dish of ice cream as a reward.

Season of Rest Spell
As the year winds down, we come into a season of rest and regeneration. The leaves are falling; the dark hours are growing longer, and the light is waning. Earth sleeps now beneath our feet. It is at this time that the Hunter comes. Orion, rising in the eastern sky, strides out of the twilight to stand guard over the slumbering world. You may greet him with words like these:
See the Hunter in the sky, Silent watcher drawing nigh. Long the vigil he must keep As he guards us in our sleep. Hunter, hear the thanks we sing, Till we part again in spring.
This charm also works for instilling courage any time of night during the dark part of the year.

Travel Time Spell
To prepare for a long car trip, just before starting out smudge the inside and outside of the car with sage or copal smoke. Imagine the smoke penetrating the physical structure of the car, giving it extra strength. Tell the car where you plan to travel, and ask for its assistance in getting there in the safest, simplest manner. If you are open, you will get an “OK” message when it’s time to leave.

Calm Nervous Energy Spell
Tiger’s-eye crystals hold the energy of the higher intellect. The power of this brown-and-gold crystal is to ease distractions and calm nervous energy. Tiger’s-eye is frequently used to ease tension, jitters, or nervous and time-wasting activities. To tap into its powers hold the tiger’s-eye crystal in your hand and repeat these words several times:
Tiger’s-eye, Clear my mind, Rid me of distraction. Calm my nerves and focus me, So I can take true action.
Keep the tiger’s-eye crystal with you. Anytime you feel the nervous energy returning, touch the crystal and feel it calm your nerves and clear your mind.

Toothpick Love Spell
If you find yourself having problems in a relationship, try this age-old ritual to get on better terms with your loved one. First, take a piece of bread and use a toothpick or other similar item to inscribe that person’s name into the bread. Then place the piece of bread into a toaster or warm oven, visualizing your chilly relations “warming up” as the bread heats up. Know that both people in the relationship are responsible for being receptive to a discussion and better relationship with each other. Once the piece of toast is done, apply butter and visualize it as a healing salve that you are applying to the other person. Then take the piece of toast, bury it in a safe place, and prepare yourself to approach the person so that the healing may begin.

Vamping It up for Saturn’s Day!
Today is Saturn’s day, and it is also the day you’ve decided to go out dancing! Wear Saturnine finery by choosing something silver and something black. Add a little patchouli oil to your favorite cologne. Add some basil to something you eat today (or choose an Italian restaurant for dinner if you have a date). If you don’t have a date, and want to meet someone, try this: Turn a piece of silver over in your hand at dusk, and say:
As this silver turns, My luck in love returns. Try a little old-fashioned glamour. Stand in front of the mirror before leaving home, and envision yourself as the most desirable person anyone will see at the club or party you’re attending. This may work, but don’t be surprised if the person you attract is rather, well, saturnine

Stress Relief Spell
To come down after a completely exhausting and stressful day, consult your herbal cabinet. Kava is used medicinally in many cultures to relieve stress and anxiety. Chamomile and lavender are frequently used to calm nerves and relax the body. Clary sage is used to calm and relax the mind. For a good relaxation tea, combine two parts kava, one part chamomile flowers, and one part mint in a cup, and pour hot water over the herbs. While the tea steeps, light a charcoal on your incense burner, and add some lavender and clary sage to the burner. Let the smoke waft over yourself. As you drink your tea and breathe in the incense, feel your stress leaving your body and your mind.

Remove a Ghost from the House Ritual
If you have creeping terrors at night, trying speaking this verse:
This spell is written for the shadow, Which moves across the wall, And for the unexplained light At the end of the hall. It was written for the strange scent of jasmine Wafting in the winter air, And for the gauzy mist, floating above the stairs. After the dusk has turned to night. Light a virgin candle, tall and white. Place it before a looking-glass. And gaze at it until you see a spirit from the past. When the flame begins to flicker and sway, gently whisper:
Come, let me guide your way. Open your door, carry your candle into the night, and say: Come gentle spirit, Go back, Follow the light. In peace you came, In peace be gone. For the good of all And harm to none.

Chili Pepper Protection Spell
To boost your protective energies on this day, gather together some chili pepper and basil. Run your fingers through the herbs, allowing your energies to attune to them. Say:
I call upon the guardian powers of chili pepper and basil. I ask that you bless my spell with your protective energies.
In a glass bowl, combine the herbs with warm water. Hold the bowl in your left hand and hold your right hand open over the water. Say:
I call upon the horned god, protector of all, charge this liquid with the powers of the guardian.
Anoint yourself at each chakra point with the liquid. Feel yourself surrounded by the loving protection of the divine. Take the remaining liquid and sprinkle it at each opening to your home.

Removing Obstacles to Success Spell
Obstacles are essential elements of growth. They point to our inner learning needs, or to shadow areas of “self-sabotage” in our subconscious. Identifying and addressing obstacles will guide you through the lessons necessary for personal growth in life. Ignoring an obstacle will ensure that it returns later in a more formidable form. For this spell for overcoming obstacles, light three white candles. Place a cleansed obsidian in front of the candles. State these or similar words:
By the light of darkest night, Bring my obstacles into sight. I overcome these barriers by my successful might.
Focus on the obsidian. Mentally open yourself to your obstacles. Claim ownership of the obstacles, and trace them back to their roots. Address the shadows or the lessons that these obstacles represent and learn from what they say to you.

Comfort Your Body Spell
As winter’s grip begins to tighten, our bodies need sustenance that nurtures, comforts, and boosts our immune system. Kitchen Witches turn now to the wisdom of root vegetables and harvest flavors, restora-tive spices, and energizing herbs. Slow-cooked stews and lemon-infused dinners, all laced with rosemary, nurture the soul and support the body. Breads and muffins spiked with cinnamon bring luck and fill the house with fragrance. Apple pies and pear crisps honor the Goddess and bring sweetness to the shortening days. Soups and stews brimming with earthy vegetables and warming spices feed not only the body but the spirit as well. Use plenty of ginger, cumin, nutmeg, and chili powder. Rosemary invites protection, and basil stimulates love and desire. Sharpen your Kitchen Witch skills!

Strengthening a Love Bond Spell
To strengthen your bond with your significant other, use a red wine (or other red beverage) and one wine glass. Pour the wine. Repeat the following words three times while looking your partner in the eyes. First, your partner says the line and drinks, and then passes the glass to you to repeat the line and drinks. Repeat the lines at least three times each.
I drink to my love And my love drinks to me. Let the bonds of love keep us through all things, Through good times and hard times, eternally.

Family Lotus Tea
Monday is family day—so why not throw a tea party for your own family today? After everyone has come home from work or school, serve lotus tea (available at specialty tea shops and at some Starbucks), and lotus buns (available at Chinese bakeries). The lotus is sacred to many pantheons. The Egyptian deities revere the lotus, as do the Hindu gods and goddesses. For more traditional Chinese items to add to your tea, include a statue of Kuan Yin along with some water lilies in a bowl of water (true lotuses are hard to find in the U.S.). Burn lotus incense as well. Make it a theme party with appropriate incense and attire and the kids will love it; or make it a romantic evening for just the two of you in kimonos, enjoying the sensuous taste and scent of lotus.

Appalachian Smoke Signal Divination
To the country folk of Appalachia, the ability to predict the weather by watching the rising of chimney smoke was crucial to survival. It is actually very easy to learn how to read these signals. Here are some points to remember to divine the weather from smoke: When smoke rises straight up, even during rain or snow, it means the weather will clear soon. If the smoke hangs low near the roof, precipitation will occur within the next twenty-four hours. If smoke hangs low, but birds are active, the weather will clear soon. And if smoke drifts back down the chimney, the weather is about to change. Watching the weather can enhance certain magical activities, such as fire divination and spirit contact.
