The Clothes-Maker Spell
Spelled clothing is a way of casting a spell by making clothes. The magic works if you can knit or crochet. Begin this spell by picking an easy project, such as a scarf or hat. Choose as a focus an ongoing intention, such as protection or good health, and compose a short affirmation, mantra, or chant that embodies your aim. This can be as simple as: May I have all the energy I need. Or else you can use something more complex if you need it. As you start your project, chant your phrase once for each stitch you knit or loop. Work on your project as long as you can keep the intention in mind. It may take you longer to finish the project, but as a result of your sustained magical intentions the item will keep its power for a long time

Pallas Athena Wisdom Spell The Greeks dedicated this day to Pallas Athena, goddess of wisdom and intellect. Honor her by wearing colors such as blue and white, or by playing games of wit and strategy. One of her most famous symbols is the owl. If you don’t have an image of Athena herself, you can substitute an owl. Light blue candles on your altar, and welcome her with words such as these:
Athena, Gray-eyed goddess, Banish doubt and confusion; Bring to me the illumination of your wisdom. Let me move silently And see clearly, As your sacred owls. Athena, bless me so!
By calling on this goddess, you also ally yourself with strong and intelligent women everywhere. This is true whether you are a man or a woman.

Stimulating Love Spell
A wonderful way to ensure faithfulness, and to stimulate love and arouse lust, is to make your loved one a cake that has both candied violets and lavender in it. The lavender may be mixed into the batter, icing, or laid on top of the cake as a decoration. The violets should be candied and placed on top of the cake as a decoration. You will need to make sure that your loved one does sample both the lavender and the violets. If you think getting them to eat the violets will pose a problem, you may choose to use violet water in place of regular water in the recipe.

Guidance of Saturn Spell
Seek the guidance of Saturn today by lighting frankincense incense and holding an amethyst crystal in the smoke. Ask that this crystal be purified of all unwanted energies and filled with the ability to effect beneficial change; then sit in meditation with this crystal and call upon the energies of Saturn. Be aware of any feelings that may arise in you at any time during the ritual. Consider how Saturn tends to bring limitations and establish boundaries; consider how such limitations might affect you, and think about how you will likely respond to this type of energy. Ask for the guidance of Saturn in these efforts, that you might grow through these reactions and attain true freedom in the process. Say out loud:
I accept the challenge to grow. I ask the blessings of amethyst and Saturn on my journey of personal evolution.
Carry the amethyst with you whenever possible.

Feast of St. Ambrose Spell
Today is the feast day of St. Ambrose. He was the bishop of Milan in the fifth century, and because of his scholarship and writing, he is called one of the four “Doctors of the Church.” Much of Ambrose’s work was concerned with synthesizing classical Pagan philosophy, particularly the work of Plato, with Christianity. He was particularly involved with the mystical teachings of the classical age known as Neo-platonism. The city of Milan is the most likely birthplace of the tarot, and although Ambrose lived a thousand years before that birth, he made an important contribution to tarot symbolism. St. Ambrose was the first person to refer to the four virtues that had been expounded on by Plato and Aristotle, which he called the Cardinal Virtues—temperance, justice, fortitude, and prudence. The word “cardinal” is derived from the Latin root cardo, which refers to the axis of a wheel. “Cardinal” means that which turns the wheel, referring to the four directions and the four constellations of the seasonal changes. St. Ambrose used the term “cardinal” for the virtues to indicate that they were more powerful than time and space. The goddess Fortuna was the ruler of this wheel, and she and her wheel have been assigned a place in the center of the tarot trumps. In fact, wisdom is illustrated on the Marseilles’ tarot Fortune card. Here we see the wheel of fate or time with three foolish creatures around it. They represent the three follies that cause the three aspects of suffering that are depicted in the second section of the tarot trumps. The three other cardinal virtues can also be seen in this second section of the tarot trumps. They are numbered in the opposite order from the way they were presented by Pythagoras and Plato. The virtues of the tarot are moving against time and suffering just as St. Ambrose taught.

Remember Our Inner Self Spell
The sign of Gemini is associated with trickster energy, or with what certain Native Americans associate with coyote medicine. Some-times trickster energy can jolt us out of our ordinary and mundane routines and help remind us of our path. The trickster energy can help us wake up from the dream of our ordinary life. Gemini is also associated with duality. As we are both physical and spiritual beings, this is a good time to remember the hidden and underlying self we may have forgotten. T0 prepare for this spell, you will need a bell and a small mirror. On the night of the Full Moon, find a quiet place and stare into the mirror. You may find yourself worrying about small concerns or suddenly critiquing your personality and lifestyle. Every time your mind drifts, ring the bell. This is the bell of awakening, and it will help you to remember to be present right where you are, and alive in the moment. After you have meditated for a time, allow yourself to look deeply into your own eyes and remember that you are beautiful and powerful. Honor the good aspects of yourself. When you start to forget them and drift back into worries or concerns, ring the bell again. Begin to see your inner radiance on a regular basis.

Preparing for the Team Spell
To foster a bit of team spirit in yourself today, take a red cloth, string, or piece of clothing that you will be able to carry with you during the sports event. With this item in hand beforehand, light a red candle. Call to Aries, god of sports and competitions, to imbue you with strength, clarity, and focus. Imagine the Aries energy surrounding and penetrating both you and the red object. See the object vibrate with the energy. Just before the the game, hold or wear your red object. Imagine the energy in the object surrounding you, augmenting your, or your team’s, own abilities.

Thanksgiving for the Souls of Animals Spell
Inuit hunters begin a five-day purification rite on December 10 for the souls of the animals they’ve killed that year. To pay thanksgiving to the food that has sustained you through the year, begin with a green altar cloth and two new candles, green and black. Place a cauldron in the center of the altar, and images of the animals and plants that make up your diet. Light the candles and visualize yourself as an animal. Recite this variation of The Song of Amergin:
I am a stag of seven tines, I am a flood on a plain, I am a wind on the deep waters, I am a shining tear of the Sun, I am a hawk on a cliff, I am a salmon in the pool. I am life, I am death. I am the universal soul.

Eliminate Bad Spending Habits
To help eliminate bad or careless spending habits, pull out one basic denomination of paper money (one dollar, one euro, and so on), and place it on your altar. Light a white candle and look into the flame. Meditate on any recent spending habits that need to change. Write these items down, and when the list is full read through it again. Light a green candle, and start reading these items out loud. As you speak, see the habits disappearing into the air and leaving you. Then say:
Open my eyes, Lend clarity. I will find just what I need. What I don’t need, I will leave. Visualize yourself spending your money only on those things you need, and so finally bringing your spending habits under control.

The Mirror of our Emotions
Our relationship choices are like mirrors. They reflect what we project to the world, and they reflect what we would like to keep hidden. In other words, for good or for bad, relationship choices show us our unconscious needs, wants, and wounds. To contact your hidden emotional needs and wounds (especially if you repeatedly find yourself in abusive or unfulfilling relationships), gaze into your own eyes in a sage-smudged mirror. State these or similar words:
Mirror, mirror on the wall, Unveil my compulsions, One and all.
Look past your physical features into your unconscious to the needs, the wants, and the wounds that lie behind the surface. Make changes in your life, and in your relationship choices, based on what you learn.

Pre-Solstice Ritual Bath
During the Winter Solstice, we often place emphasis on celebrating and sharing this joyous, but often difficult, holiday. For Witches, however, now may also serve as a time to atune to a quiet, internal spirituality. To begin to do so (with the solstice less than ten days away now), prepare a ritual bath with oils of rosemary, pine, and orange. Add a touch of patchouli for grounding. Light gold and green candles, and immerse yourself in watery solitude to refresh your weary holiday spirit. Meditate on the winter goddess and her lesson of stillness. Find the cool and clean space she offers, free of clutter and activity. It is the season for centering and grounding ourselves, and for defining who we really are. After the bath, take your journal and write down your goals by candlelight. Contemplate the coming rebirth, and identify which direction you wish to channel your energy and focus your intentions.

A Walk in the Snow
This is the season of snowstorms, of blustery winds and blizzards and arctic chill. Many of us need to come to terms with the cold and deathly silence of this season. To do so, take a walk in the snow. In actuality, few things are better for the soul, and the body, than a walk outside in a winter wonderland. There’s something wonderfully contemplative about the sights and sounds of a world covered in snow. During a light snow storm is a particularly good time to discover the outdoor. When you walk, make sure you are bundled up as warmly as possible—with the whole works: mittens, hat, down parka, and so on—so you can take your time and simply meander. Meanwhile, listen to the sounds of winter as well as to all the inconsequential chatter in your head that you usually ignore. This walk isn’t about how fast you get there, but how much you enjoy getting there. After your walk, head indoors for some hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows floating on top like a soft snowbank.

Taking in Fairies Ritual Fairies tend to sleep during the winter months. However, at this time you may invite them into your home so that they may work their magic there. To let them know that they are welcome where you live, set up four candles in your home—a green one in the north, a red one in the south, a blue one in the west, and a yellow one in the east. Place a crystal or other stone beside each candle, and walk to each candle in a circular motion sprinkling ginger as you go. Then stand in the center of your room and call out this greeting: Welcome fairies and nature spirits. I bid you enter, welcome all.

Norse Rune Divination
The Norse people used runes to record important events, inscribe names on weapons and monuments, and divine the future. As the year-wheel turns, we have an opportunity to glimpse what lies ahead. Runes are especially suited to this kind of work, as this verse explains:
Rune craft, rune lore, Seek to learn a little more. Rune old, rune true, Whisper what it’s coming to.
To preview the coming year, draw twelve runes, and lay them out in a row. The first rune on the left corresponds to January, and so on down the line. Each one suggests the overall tone for that month.

Remind-Yourself Success Spell
To remind yourself of your own self-worth, take one whole almond and carve the word “success” on it. Hold it as you visualize yourself enjoying a successful business or school career. Take a deep breath and, as you exhale, blow this intent onto the almond. Brew a cup of chamomile tea and soak the almond in it over-night. Allow it to dry and carry it with you throughout the next day. That night, bury the almond in the earth or in a houseplant that ordinarily resides wherever you do your work. Draw a pentacle in the dirt over the almond. Holding your hands out over the pentacle, call up that visualization of success and charge the pentacle with this intent.
