Hussar: Throughout the day, you labor to build what turns out to be a very fancy battlewagon. Two stout logs flank the wagon, sticking out some fifteen feet in front and behind the wagon. The central part is square and looks like a tower some twenty feet high and roughly cubical. Twin rough axels set into large wooden wheels complete the assembly. At the dwarves' urging, you begin to decorate your wagon, making it look like your ship. A glacis plate is added to the front, wrapped in ropes, set between the two flanking logs. Finally, towards late afternoon, you are finished. You look at your wagon critically and compare it to the wagons of the other teams of dwarves. Even to your untrained eye, your wagon does not look quite so well done. ** Grimnoor looks anywhere where my strength may be needed ** Kelly: by the way - change my spells to some water breathing and cure poison (33) Shadowdragon (exit): 12:26 Grimnoor: what pulls this? Elias: a team of half orcs - ooc Hussar: You do. Hussar: A dwarf with a necklace of shells steps forward and raises a flag. He points at two of the floats. With a cry, each float's team pushes their float out and around until the two floats face each other some 100 feet apart. The dwarves then pile onto the back logs and raise the front end high into the air. Drummers inside each float pound their drums in a frenzy. The flag is dropped and with a roar, the dwarves drop their floats with a crash and push the floats forward. Gaining speed, the floats appear almost like ships on the water until, CRASH! The floats ram together, the forward logs smashing squarely into the padded front of each float. Dwarves atop each float hurl insults and fruit at the other team. The crowd roars. Endil: ah Kelly: let the games begin Elias: HAHA! Elias: TallyHOOOOOO! Grimnoor: lol ** Grimnoor keeps his eyes peeled for danger ** Endil: would my capentry skills be of use Kelly: opps - I can't take neutralize poision - so talk to the shaman to ascertain if she could help anyone bitten by the posionous snakes Hussar: The dwarves then back up their floats and repeat three more times. Turjan: ooc: sounds like a saporro beer commercial whispering to Kelly, Relax and enjoy the party, this is going to go on for a couple of days. Hussar: ooc, actually have pictures of this but didn't have time to develop the film. Kelly: cast make whole on our ship wagon to reinforce it Hussar: It realy is hillariousl. Endil: Craft Skill Check: [1d20+13] -> [17,13] = Endil: btw, thats carpentry skill Endil: to further enhance ours Hussar: Some of the dwarves fall from the top of the wagon to lie stunned on the ground. Others rush forward to drag them out of the way and ply them with liquor Hussar: The afternoon progresses with floats being smashed to pieces and the winners returning to their places. Elias: to decorate our Wagon (chrasima check) [1d20 +4] -> [4,4] = (8) Hussar: Jugs of a very potent alcohol are being passed freely. ** Turjan takes a drink ** Hussar: On your turn, you wheel you wagon forward. Kelly: take only small sips, but appear to take larger ones Elias: ooc ok, i draw like second grader Hussar: lol Hussar: It appears that the finished product is less important than the process. Hussar: the alcohol is fiery. Hussar: And slightly sweet. Elias: I begin a rhythmic chant to pump up my team (suing bardic music) Hussar: You ram your float against the other three times. Elias: *using Hussar: The crowd goes wild! ** Turjan takes another drink to appraise resale value ** Kelly: cast light on the top mast of our shi[ Kelly: ship Grimnoor: I add my strength to the push Kelly: float ship i mean Elias: *drunkily* did we win? Hussar: Crash, smash ,crash. The booming drums and the roar of the crowd. Elias: TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALY------- Elias: WACK! Hussar: Someone roll 3 d20 Grimnoor: How does one win this contest? Elias: [3d20] -> [16,15,7] = (38) Endil: [3d20] -> [15,15,6] = (36) Kelly: [3d20] -> [11,11,5] = Hussar: [3d20] -> [5,13,14] = (32) Kelly: all good rolls Grimnoor: lol Elias: you beat the crap outta the other team? Hussar: Ok, your float somehow smashes the other float, spilling dwarves onto the ground. Kelly: horrrayyy Turjan: alright! Hussar: You are all covered in mud and fruit by the end of the contest. Endil: all because of my carpenty skills Elias: HAAAAAHAHAHA! **Drinks more of the liquor** Grimnoor: prolly due to Half-orc horse power Kelly: **laughing and smiling takes another drink** Hussar: As one of the winners, you then get to pull your wagon over the dirt track for the next hour or two. Kelly: go grimnoor ** Grimnoor declines liquor for it slows the mind ** ** Endil declines liquor for if you read the log you would know ** Kelly: pull the wagon having fun for the first time in many long battles against death Hussar: Ravenously hungry, you are pushed en masse into a large clearing. Roasted animals of various shapes dot the clearing, still turning on spits. Turjan: Turjan laughs "There is nothing quite as good as watching dwarves fall from high places" ** Grimnoor also may forget where he is if drunk... ** Hussar: The party progresses. ** Endil makes no move to eat ** Kelly: **wait for the chief to signal to eat or he begins eating**then eat**] Grimnoor: no dogs or cats are there? ** (34) Shadowdragon drinks deeply of the offered beverage ** Turjan: waiting Hussar: Everyone rushes the spits and rips off some food. ** (34) Shadowdragon is looking for some ice cream. ** Kelly: **join them** Elias: **Follow suit** Turjan: "Lets eat" Hussar: Fruit and tubers are layed out on palm fronds. Kelly: quiet blessing to corean (34) Shadowdragon: Edibles? Eat as much as possible ** (34) Shadowdragon drinks deeply of the offered beverage ** Hussar: The meats and fruits and tubers are all unfamiliar. You recognise birds and fish, but the animals are completely strange. ** Endil stays away from the mass of humans and dwarves ** Grimnoor: I accept only fruit Elias: cast tongues (if not too drunk) and begin singing sevral fun songs Endil: ooc how far are we from the wall Hussar: About two miles Grimnoor: For I have been taught to respect all living things Shadowdragon grabs some food and takes it to Endil ** Endil: and so you eat plants Endil: that live Hussar: Several scuffles break out as one team accuses the other of cheating. Grimnoor: not really, just sort of mutilated Kelly: step back Hussar: Nothing major, more just great wrestling matches and a few bloody noses. ** Endil politly declines the food ** Grimnoor: does it look like it will turn ugly Elias: I begin a song to take their minds off of it ** Hussar people begin dancing to Elias's song. ** ** Shadowdragon promptly eats the food himself ** Hussar: The crew is happily getting plastered. Grimnoor: May I show these people how to kabre toss? Kelly: the crew i mean Elias: (there should be crew onboard the ship due to the rotation) Elias: (and Mylo of course) Kelly: ok Kelly: of course - LOl Hussar: Yes, the skeleton crew is on board and not very happy. Hussar: At least Grim's not advocating dwarf tossing. Grimnoor: not yet... Elias: I make sure that there is some food sent out to them Kelly: take them some of the best food and a jug of alcohol of the crew on the ship Grimnoor: nothing spells fun like drinking and cabers Kelly: ration out the alcohol myself Elias: (um, alchol would kinda defeat the purpose Kelly: so no one gets drunk Elias: (they can have that tomarrow) Elias: (ah) ** Shadowdragon suggests that some of the marines take the skeleton crew some food (but no liquor) ** Kelly: one drink won't hurt Hussar: Done boss. Hussar: And a good time is had by all. Grimnoor: lets hope they arent recovering alcoholics Kelly: while on the ship - say a prayer out loud to Corean before the crew eats ** Shadowdragon drinks deeply of the offered beverage ** Endil: uh oh, a drunk sorcerer ** Hussar Shadowdragon is feeling pretty warm and tingly. ** Kelly: 12 step program for Shadow **Shadowdragon drinks deeply of the offered beverage ** Hussar: Well boys, I gotta go to work. Kelly: ok later Elias: yeah, bed time here Kelly: it was fun Hussar: This looks like a good place to stop for the day. For the Week of November 13/2003
Hussar: Okay, when last we left, you had about half a dozen purple apes netted up inside a web spell. Kelly: grape ape Hussar: You have examined the apes and seen that they are neither making noise nor breathing. Grimnoor: except the ones in the web Grimnoor: er lol Grimnoor: thought you said exterminated Kelly: mutuant zombie grape apes Endil: with penicillin Hussar: You could head strait north and you will run into the ocean before too long. You are currently two hexes east of the northernmost village [Bad dice format]. Heading to the ocean will take about 3 hours of slogging through the jungle since there are no direct paths. You guide informs you through hand gestures and a map in the dirt that you are nearing the edge of their hunting grounds. The infected dwarf would not have likely travelled much further than that. Grimnoor: Ok, I say we let em go and see where they go, maybe they'll lead us back to their origin Endil: or maybe they'll attack us again Hussar: The infected animals are still struggling to get at you, even though they cannot break free of the web. They do not appear to be interested in retreating. Grimnoor: no, we won't stand arround and wait for em to get loose Turjan: its worth a shot, we could easily defeat them if they attack Hussar: It is currently about 2 hours after noon. Grimnoor: we hide and watch them from a distance Endil: they could watch us hide... Kelly: I say we destroy the fungus creatures without touching them - then try to wash this abominable purple dust off of us Endil: i agree with the cleric Grimnoor: I would be loth to bathe in water from this place Grimnoor: er loath Grimnoor: not lolth Endil: or lloth Kelly: purple dust could = spores Endil: or just plain mold Kelly: maybe mold seeds Grimnoor: yes, I agree, but the water here could be contaminated as well Endil: and i don't want mold on me Kelly: waterskins Endil: or create water Kelly: or i could pee on you Hussar: The nearest water to you is about three hours slog through the jungle. And then you hit the ocean. Grimnoor: create water would work Kelly: don't have create water spell Endil: or cast create water *hint hint* Kelly: but do have one purify water Endil: wizard? Turjan: nope, just flaming sphere and some alcohol Endil: that could work wonders together Grimnoor: either way we still have to treck though this infected wood Endil: semi-magic molotovs Turjan: especially at a Hawaiin Luah Kelly: I do have one remove disease spell ** Grimnoor grows used to others not harking to his wisdom ** Endil: may as well clean the stuff off as best we can after dealing with the grape apes ** Endil does so ** Kelly: ok - I am going to hold my breath - brush as much of this crap off of me with a palm frond - then clean up with pure water from my waterskin being careful not to ingest the dust Endil: ya, i dust myself off not really caring for the dust ** Grimnoor dusts himself as best he can but spares his water ** Kelly: hmmmmm.........holding my breath so long reminds me of the good ole days at the monestary - auto-affixiation ** Turjan dusts himelf off, and orders his troops to do the same ** Grimnoor: now, what about the creatures? Endil: (i don't think it's spelt like that...) Kelly: oh yeah good idea - Ned, Ted and Fred - clean yourselves up - "You 8-balls make me sick" ** Hussar The troops clean themselves up as best they can. They appear fairly frightened. ** Hussar: What do you do with the trapped apes? Kelly: ***Ranting like Sargent Carter*** Grimnoor: I still say that no harm can come from seeing where they go Endil: ok, wiz, dissmiss the web spell Kelly: I nominate Mylo to follow them Kelly: lol Grimnoor: wait ** Endil readies his rapier ** Turjan: we have to hide first Grimnoor: not yet, lets vacate the area Kelly: who is going to follow them? Endil: i volonteer the halfling whispering to Turjan, Web is not dismissable. You will have to wait about 15 minutes. Kelly: yeah should be our stealthiest man Hussar: The halfling is back at the ship watching the water stores. Turjan: "I think our hafling is still in the villae" Kelly: anyone have a familiar? Kelly: that would be a good choice ** Grimnoor looks arround ** Endil: only the wiz can Turjan: No, sorry. Turjan: How about Falen? Hussar: Nope. Kelly: darn - get you a flying squirrel familiar - they are the coolest ** Endil pokes the half-orc in the back, you go ** ** Grimnoor turns and looks down upon him with cold eyes ** Kelly: they should not bother you since you are a monkey Kelly: errr....monk ** Hussar the DM pictures the scene and laughs his ass off. ** Kelly: lets destroy most of them....and follow a few Hussar: The spell will wear off in ten minutes. Kelly: would be the safest Kelly: besides they are abominations - and my faith supports their destruction before they wrought more evil Hussar: The web will wear off in 5 minutes. Endil: i think they're plants... Kelly (whispering): thinking about that Corean stuff - LOL Endil: but i agree with the killing part whispering to Kelly, cool. Keep it up. Grimnoor: Can you detect evil? Kelly: 9 minutes Turjan: ooc-what do you call a group of apes? Tribe, troupe, clutch, possy? Kelly: lets decide something Grimnoor: Troupe Turjan: I can use detect evil on them and see what happens Kelly: do it Turjan: whoops sorry-cant do it Endil: one time when a paladin would be useful Kelly: I can cast detect poison on the mold - but I am pretty sure it is not cool anyway ** Grimnoor wonders how he got involved in with this chicken Sh*t outfit ** Hussar: 2 minutes until the spell ends Kelly: ok gather my troops around me "We are heading out in a couple minutes before this spell wears off and the apes are free - If you need healed, let me know right away." ** Endil gets ready to fight ** Kelly: let's move out or destroy them Hussar: No one is badly hurt. Just some minor scratches. Grimnoor: Czan we mark them with something like paint to leave a trail? Hussar: Mark who? The apes? How? Endil: not in 1.5 mins Hussar: And not when they are stuck in the middle of webs. ** Endil sets an attack if any of the apes enters melee range ** Hussar: Spell is ending. Hussar: ... Grimnoor: Slay them Kelly: prepare the troops to attack Grimnoor: just shoot em Turjan: light the web on fire? Grimnoor: your mental lethargy never seaces to astound me Endil: ceases Grimnoor: Yes, i just ssaid that ** Hussar WhooooSSSSHHHH!!! The webs go up in a cloud of smoke. There are several charred bodies lying on the ground. ** Grimnoor: have the men shoot em with the bows Kelly: ooc - DM - any pluses on the troopies to hit with crossbows - and what is their base attack bonues ** Turjan loads his crossbow and fires ** Grimnoor: NM Kelly: 3? : Check out Shads site, their stats are their. I believe +3 with crossbow and +4 with rapier. : After checking the bodies to make sure they are truly dead, you decide to press on. Grimnoor: well now that the mindless plant creatures are slain lets see if we can't find out where they came from : Deeper still you press into the jungle. Nearly five hours have passed since you left the village. Even the ground here is covered with the noxious fungi. The leaf cover overhead has completely choked off the sun. Violet gloom surrounds you. Small puffs of dust rise up whenever you take a step. There is a sudden muttering through the men and word is passed back to you. There is something up ahead. Moving quickly, you come to the head of your troop. Through the shade, at the base of a huge tree, you see a massive purple mushroom. Grimnoor: How lucky that we found this Kelly: back off Kelly: could be psychiasilic (spelling) Grimnoor: men, be rready to cover your ears if you have to Endil: that's shreakers Kelly: in other words - A magic mushroom : It's only one mushroom and it's about 15 feet across. Endil: violet fungi ar mobile Grimnoor: Endil, do you geain some perverse pleasure from comenting on everything I say? : The picture that you see is actual size. Kelly: I have comprehend languages to try to talk to it (think that is a bad idea) and burning hands to burn it Kelly: but then have to get too close ** Turjan looks astounded at the muschroom ** ** Endil get's his bow out and nocks an arrow ** ** Grimnoor damps a cloth with hsi canteen, then ties it over his nose and mouth ** : Okay, you guys are at the south end of the clearing. Kelly: Kelly does the same as Grimnor and tells Ned, Fred and Ted to follow suit Endil: ya, my E-Marines get they're crossbows out and nocked : Very south end of the map, where the forest opens. Kelly: look out - storm giants Grimnoor: Daan and Staan are up top Endil: i also order my marines to kneel after firing to alow others easy firing Shadowdragon: [1d20+3] -> [16,3] = (19) Grimnoor: are there little musrooms around the big one? Endil: and the first shot is from shadowdragon : First off, make some spot checks pleas. : Endil notices that the mushroom has four moving tentacles slithering through the underbrush. : They don't appear to be able to reach you though. Turjan: oh goodness Kelly: "any one see anything?" Endil: ya, i relay the info about the tendrils Kelly: Holy Corean batman : As you take up firing positions on the giant purple muschroom... : Shuffling out of the undergrowth towards you is another huge lizard covered with the purple fungus. It lumbers forward. Grimnoor: Holy Korean? Where? Kelly: I instruct Fred, Fred, and Fred to get ready to fire Kelly: look above and behind us ** it lumbers forward, making no noise save the crackling of the brush beneath it. ** : Initiatives please. Grimnoor: hahahaha Endil: wonderful Kelly: damn that moster Shadowdragon: OH FUDGE!!!!!!!!!

Turjan (whispering): have my spells refreshed? Grimnoor: Are then tenticals even moving still? Kelly: Any other marines need healed? : The tentacles are not moving. Endil: what page on the DMG? Grimnoor: Save your spell then, lets just put it to the torch : You poke and prod the mushroom and it does not move. : You toss a torch into the mushroom. Grimnoor: I dont want it to spore on us : You poke through the ashes to make sure nothing is left. : While you are poking through the ashes, you find.. : 5 gems and a conch shell. : The gems are: Kelly: Grimmy - blow on the conch shell - see what happens Grimnoor: hmmm Grimnoor: I pick up the conch shell and examine it Endil: gonna taste it too? : Lapis lazuli Banded agate Golden yellow topaz Blue sapphire and Deep green spinel Grimnoor: Do you wish to taste it? : Staan is not dead, he has been healed by Kelly. Turjan: If you give me a little time, I may be able to identify the use Grimnoor: Then please do Turjan (whispering): using identify whispering to Turjan, You detect conjuration magic, enchantment and alteration. All fairly strong. Turjan: "Please wait a moment" Kelly: continue to watch the party's back since this is the perfect time for an ambush : one moment please ** Turjan draws some funny signs on the ground and places the conch in the middle-and begins a low murmur ** ** Endil contemplates attaching bells to himself... ** Kelly: cool : You realize that Identify takes 8 hours to cast Kelly: but detect magic will give you the strength of magic and the type most of the time : But you do have LOTS of pearls back at the ship. Turjan: We will know its nature, but it may take around 8 hours Turjan: The magic detection informed me of the type of magic-conjuration, enchantment and alteration" Kelly: hmmmmmm.....interesting ** The gods have wiped out the map ** : hee hehe : Pondering the shell, you return to the village. Turjan: "But to fully identify I will have to soak it in the blood of an owl for a few hours" Kelly: always after me lucky charms Turjan: Shoot any owls you see Grimnoor: Again with the racial slurs : You return to the village of the Tiger dwarves just as darkness falls : The chief is happy to see you. After a brief conversation with your guide, he smiles broadly. With Elias translating, he says, Grimnoor: oo ee oo ah ah, ting tang, walla walla bing bang

You may bathe there and clean off the foul dust" ** Kelly: right before bed, I will cast my 1st level spells as cure light wounds and get everyone up to full ** Grimnoor lathers up and embarasses everyone ** Turjan: to the hot spring-take some of that alcohol with us Kelly: also to make up for the Staff/Wand fiasco : Much alcohol is brought. And food as well. Grimnoor: and there was much rejoicing ** Endil does not like this idea of communal bathing... and avoids the hotspring ** Kelly: Just to be safe, cast remove disease on myself ** Endil goes for a dip in the ocean ** Grimnoor: indeed, only fools bathe together Grimnoor: or lovers... Grimnoor: or perverts.. Kelly: Hey you mean me? Endil: yes, and i am none of those : Hey, I resemble that rmark! Hussar: You have been on the Island for the past two weeks or so. Following the clues left to you in an ancient message, you have set off to the north from the friendly village of the Tiger Dwarves in search of the plateau of the serpent men. ** Hussar takes big breath. ** Hussar: You have been following a path from the Tiger Dwarves village for the past three days. Towards the end of the third day, you have been surprised by a flock of stirges. Endil: i take it i hear the bow shots, and grim's battle cry? Hussar: 5 feet per square. Hussar: Oh yeah. Endil: and the sturges buzzing Hussar: You aren't that far. Grimnoor: Did one of you break a mirrior or something? Endil: ok, i shoot the nearest with my bow Palai: yes, I looked at it and it exploded Hussar: You bat it to the ground, jump up and down on it and then toss it into a tree. Palai: *coughoverkillcough* Endil: ability damage restores at 1/day, 2 if complete bed rest i do beleave Hussar: Yup Hussar: That be true. Hussar: You are overlooking the huge black morass of an enormous tar pit. Stretching to the west for several miles, this black lake of tar bubbles and seethes from the fires beneath it. Kelly: pray for new spells, do the standard food gig Endil: could you circle the snake's location? Hussar: It's not on this map. Hussar: You are still too far south. Hussar: From the Tiger Dwarf's estimates, you have another 3 weeks of travel ahead of you. Endil: oi Palai: oh fun Grimnoor: Men, I won't lie to you, by the end of this most of you will be eaten Hussar: Dusk approaches. As you make your way across an open field, the smell of death suddenly stings your nostrils. Flies buzz thickly in the air. Looking ahead, you see that you are wandering onto a recent battlefield. Some are partially eaten - all have been killed by a powerful, ripping and tearing weapon - though you can't tell from the wounds whether it was a natural or manufactured weapon. Grimnoor: I will begin by taking Elias's advice by eating his shorts Hussar: Two other dead monsters can also be seen on this battlefield. Huge bulbous bodies, which look much like large brains even before the bloating of death occurred, are surrounded by 10 long tentacles. Bloody beaks, apparently the weapons used to tear apart their humanoid foes, extend from the fronts of the brainlike bodies. The corpses have been hacked with large-bladed weapons and have many arrows stuck into their bizarre hides. Kelly: can anyone speak with dead? Kelly: can all of us fit within a 30' radius centered on Kelly? If so, I will use the prayer spell instead of bless Hussar: You should have a big greenish map with the grell at the top and you at the bottom. Shadowdragon: now i do Hussar: If you huddle up a little bit more, prayer will cover everyone.
