(2) Elias: Navigational Skill [1d20 +10] -> [3,10] = (13) (1) Hussar: Somehow I don't think he'll be returning. It's been almost two months. So, he gets relagated to NPC status. (1) Hussar: Oh, here (2) Elias: sucky (2) Elias: in another level I'll take him on with leadership feat (if i opt for it) (3) Grimnoor: hmmm (1) Hussar: Might be an idea. (1) Hussar: lol (2) Elias: Raises his voice in song! [1d20 +14] -> [3,14] = (17) (2) Elias: Grim's touching me! (1) Hussar: bad halfling, bad shortarse (3) Grimnoor: am not! (2) Elias: am TO! (3) Grimnoor: NOT! ** (2) Elias tests something ** ** (2) Elias Hits Grimnoor ** (1) Hussar: Christ guys, I get to here that all the time at school. Do you want me to pull this car over? (3) Grimnoor: Elias just hit me! (1) Hussar: [Bad dice format] ** (2) Elias hits Grim again ** ** Sorry, don't understand what a / is... ** (1) Hussar smacks both of you ** (3) Grimnoor: *cries* ** (2) Elias begins to cry ** (2) Elias: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! (1) Hussar: So, did you take the time to look at the prologue I gave you? (3) Grimnoor: My daddy is a kick boxer, youll be sorry! (2) Elias has sent you a tree node... (3) Grimnoor: and yeah i did (2) Elias: thought you might like that Hussar (2) Elias: have to replace the names of course (2) Elias: yup (1) Hussar: Now that's handy. If I could just find another game to play in. (2) Elias: , prolly need to reread it though (2) Elias: been a few days (1) Hussar: The winter has passed once again and the blood rains have ended. Life is returning to normal in the City of Mithril. You have gone almost daily to the dry dock to observe the work on your ship. The damage has been repaired and you are very pleased with what you see. Also pleasing is your new crew. Word of your deeds has spread and sailors have flocked to your banner. And, best of all, Chel Azatlan has word for you. You make your way to his shop to talk with the old man. ** (2) Elias makes his way ** (1) Hussar: Ah, welcome sirs, he says. It has been a sore trial ferreting out the information that you seek. I could regale you with stories of conferences and correspondence, but, I can see from your faces, ahem, you may not be interested in that. To the point then. (3) Grimnoor: GI shall follow the m,usic maker (1) Hussar: The scrap of paper and the map both come from the same source. About three centuries ago, before the Titanswar, a Veshian captain by the name of Roran Breezewater embarked on a daring journey. From what I can gather, he somehow discovered the location of an island about six weeks south east of Mithril. How he came by this knowledge is unclear. Port records show that he provisioned his ship, hired a full crew and set out. Nothing was heard from him again until nearly two years later. He somehow made his way back to Vesh with a skeleton crew and a badly damaged ship. He foreswore the sea and apparently spent the rest of his days in the capital city of Lave. Scholars of the time made note that he wrote a fairly detailed account of his journey, but no copies survived the Titanswar. My guess is that your piece of paper is some of his original notes. I am assured that the map is genuine. The age of the parchment and the inks seems to be in order as is the style in which the map is made. All proper for the time. If these are forgeries, they are extremely good ones. (3) Grimnoor: indeed,,,' ** (2) Elias nods ** (1) Hussar: I have something here that might interest you. However, it was very difficult to procure and it will cost you a little extra. I have a part of Breezewater's navigational log entries. It gives a fairly direct route to this island he speaks of. If I'm reading this correctly, the journey should take about 3 or 4 weeks. (3) Grimnoor: how much extra? (2) Elias: ... (3) Grimnoor: *whistleing* (1) Hussar: Let us say... 200 gp? ** (2) Elias looks at Grim ** (3) Grimnoor: I shall now look at you ** (2) Elias shrug ** (3) Grimnoor: i shall now shrug (2) Elias: (use /me) (2) Elias: (man, he's big) ** (3) Grimnoor thinks the man looks goofy, like an old painting ** ** (2) Elias eyes his fake baldness warily ** (1) Hussar: Use me Elias? Sheesh, I didn't know you were into that. ** (2) Elias for emote, duh ** (2) Elias: ( ) (1) Hussar: Oh, BTW, in the future, make all game posts on Shadow's site. Makes my life easier. (2) Elias: nodz ** (3) Grimnoor nods ** (1) Hussar: Those bloody popups are a pain. ** (2) Elias gives Chel 100 gold and looks at Grim ** (1) Hussar: Anyway, back to the game. whispering to Hussar, [1d20+10] -> [12,10] = (22) (1) Hussar: Chel takes the money and hands over the log. ** (3) Grimnoor fumbles around in his lwide pockets and brings out a neat roll of 100 gold coins ** ** (2) Elias takes Log ** ** (1) Hussar Azatlan turns to leave. ** ** (3) Grimnoor takes a peek at it ** (1) Hussar: If there are no more questions gentlemen. ** (2) Elias shrugs ** ** (3) Grimnoor says "thank you" ** (1) Hussar: He bids you good day. (1) Hussar: and leaves ** (2) Elias waves ** ** (3) Grimnoor bids him good day and waves good bye ** (1) Hussar: So, have you decided on what to do with your ship yet? (2) Elias: Ok, so we need to figure out our money situation, right? Like where the money to outfit the ship is coming from, and what we did with all the swag from a couple weeks ago (1) Hussar: Swaggage amounts to the following: (1) Hussar: Diamond 25 gp, a golden sextant (100 gp), Ornate Compass (200 gp), 140 pp, 1040 gp, 800 sp, 230 cp, 3 potions (neutralize poison, sneaking, haste), MW Rapier, MW Spear, MW thieves tools, 8000 gp (various coinage), 3500 gp (various gems) diamond tiara (2500 gp), three scrolls (Now 2 ? Silent image and hold monster), 2 potions (1 char, 1 protection from electricity) and Robe of Scintillating Colors. And Map and Note. From the recovered goods salvage, less Hailafs silks and some odds and sods like identification spells ? 12000 gp

(2) Elias: Did you want to keep any of it Grim? ** (3) Grimnoor wonders how much the ship repairs cost ** (1) Hussar: Mylo could really use the compass and sextant. and so could Elias (2) Elias: yeah (1) Hussar: Ship repairs will be 12000 gp (3) Grimnoor: but could we not sell it and buy a regukar set? (2) Elias: and i guess we could hold onto the potions too (1) Hussar: The Robe is worth 25 000 gp (2) Elias: and the scrolls (1) Hussar: Total treasure less minor majic is: (3) Grimnoor: i say we pawn the robe and pay for the repairs first off (2) Elias: let's see what the totals are (1) Hussar: 27822 in swag plus 25000 for the robe (3) Grimnoor: es not bad (2) Elias: over 50k then (2) Elias: not bad at all (2) Elias: if we repair and outfit the ship with what you are suggesting, how much would that leave? (3) Grimnoor: so ill take half, and you take the other jhalf (2) Elias: well, what about shadow? (3) Grimnoor: hes gone, except it (2) Elias: lol (1) Hussar: Total costs would be 33030 gp. Note, this leaves very little room for cargo. (2) Elias: why would we need cargo if we're goin to the island? all we'd need are supplies, correct? (2) Elias: or are we doing something else? (1) Hussar: This would leave 19792 gp. (3) Grimnoor: veil of obscurity is only 25000 (1) Hussar: Well, you know the island is inhabited. In orderto make a profit, you may wish to bring something to trade with the natives. (3) Grimnoor: hmm you have a point (2) Elias: hrm (3) Grimnoor: did we throw away that lotus weed? (2) Elias: what kind of cargo? and how much could we hold? (1) Hussar: Except for what you may have bought ( I don' t know what you did with that) yes, the weed is gone. (3) Grimnoor: lol we could buy an ironclad for 30000 (1) Hussar: YOur ship can hold 250 tons. (1) Hussar: Currently, your ammunition takes up 45 tons (1) Hussar: No ironclads exist here. (1) Hussar: : P (2) Elias: lol, brutely rebuffed (1) Hussar: Current sailing tech is about 14th to 15th century. Think Columbus (1) Hussar: Without cannons (3) Grimnoor: ewoks had hangligers... (3) Grimnoor: lol (3) Grimnoor: hmmm (1) Hussar: Other races may have flying vessels, particularly magic powered ones, but not in Mithril (3) Grimnoor: yeah i know (2) Elias: well, what do you say Grim? (2) Elias: are we gonna get a loan to pay for the outfitting, or pay for it ourselves? (3) Grimnoor: well natives are gonna like something extotic to them (2) Elias: yeah (3) Grimnoor: if we pay now atleast we wont be in debt (2) Elias: does the Journal mention anything about what the natives are like? (2) Elias: true (3) Grimnoor: do they like white women? (2) Elias: ROFL (1) Hussar: That might help too. (2) Elias: grumble (2) Elias: that's a lot of figuring (1) Hussar: Assume four week journey, with 155 crew, that's quite a bit of food. (2) Elias: yeah (3) Grimnoor: and i know those cmagic cabnets cost a bundle (1) Hussar: 30 days of food costs 1395 gp and weighs...just under 12 tons (2) Elias: we need 44 sets of sea rations (2) Elias: i believe for 4 weeks (1) Hussar: I added a couple of days just to be safe. (2) Elias: ah (3) Grimnoor: could we get a cheap barge to haul the treasure back on? (1) Hussar: lol (2) Elias: nah, we'll fire the marines and use thier bunks to store it (2) Elias: (2) Elias: j/k (3) Grimnoor: lol (3) Grimnoor: yeah, no need to pay the mercenaries (2) Elias: why do we need a clock? (1) Hussar: This still leaves just under 200 tons for cargo (2) Elias: not like we're timing torpedoes or anything (1) Hussar: A clock is used to measure speed (3) Grimnoor: did they mention how heavy this treasure is? (2) Elias: oh (1) Hussar: Very useful for navigation. (1) Hussar: A logline and a egg timer works too. (2) Elias: I don't see an Egg timer on the list (1) Hussar: sorry, hourglass. NOt sure how much. Not much though. (3) Grimnoor: what weighs more, pitch barrels or stones? (1) Hussar: Prolly about the same. (2) Elias: Astrolabe (navigation tool); Bilge Pump 2 man 300 gp 75 lbs; Captains Log 20 gp 4 lbs ; Charting Tools Masterwork 50 gp 1 lbs; Log Line (tells ship speed) 8 gp 15 lbs; Ships Bell 25 gp 12 lbs; Telescope 2000 gp 1 lbs; Timepiece (Clockwork) 3000 gp 2 lbs (2) Elias: is what we need, right? (2) Elias: since we already got a compas and sextant (1) Hussar: Tack in a couple of tons of repair materials and you're gold. (2) Elias: yeah (2) Elias: i was gonna ask about that (2) Elias: ok, let me add all that up (1) Hussar: I got 5488 gp (3) Grimnoor: we could hire an all female crew, trade them off to the nativesand that would give us more room on the return trip (2) Elias: 5488 gold before repair material (1) Hussar: [300+20+50+8+25+2000+3000+85] -> 5488 (2) Elias: right (2) Elias: how much repair material? (1) Hussar: Well it's 20 hp/ton and 200 gp/ton (1) Hussar: 10 tons? (2) Elias: sure (2) Elias: we broke yet? (2) Elias: lol (1) Hussar: 7488 gp for supplies (2) Elias: I'm having trouble keeping up (1) Hussar: plus food (2) Elias: we figured that out a minute ago, right? (1) Hussar: 1395 gp (3) Grimnoor: ok, how about you give us the sampler (1) Hussar: FOr a total of [7488+1395] -> 8883 (1) Hussar: I just saw the female crew shot. lol (3) Grimnoor: with our luck the natives will be amazons.... (1) Hussar: BTW, I don't know if you noticed. While you are armed for bear in terms of siege weaponry, you do not have a lot of marines. (2) Elias: Money - Repairs/outfit - supplies [52822 - 33030 - 1395] -> 18397 (2) Elias: err (2) Elias: minus 8883 (2) Elias: [18397 - 8883] -> 9514 (2) Elias: is what we have left (1) Hussar: Not too bad at all. (3) Grimnoor: (2) Elias: what i thought Grim (1) Hussar: You still haven't even gone into debt. (2) Elias: and i don't think i've put in the repair material yet (2) Elias: so that's really 7514 (3) Grimnoor: id rather go into debt and still have a ton of cool stuff (1) Hussar: You've repaired your ship, crewed, outfitted it and you are still in the black. Wow. (1) Hussar: I'm impressed. (2) Elias: no, i'm sorry, it is 9514 (2) Elias: we haven't bought and alch fire or anlything (2) Elias: have we? (3) Grimnoor: well that leaves 9514 (1) Hussar: no. (3) Grimnoor: so, who says we go take up a collection? (1) Hussar: No one. (2) Elias: lol, at sword point (1) Hussar: Umm, what would you like to take as trade goods. (1) Hussar: ? (3) Grimnoor: its time that church started giving something back (1) Hussar: ? (2) Elias: no kidding (2) Elias: anyway, we need some Greater Wind Favored Sails, only 67,500gp (1) Hussar: lol (2) Elias: pg 51 Arms and Equ guid (3) Grimnoor: hell yeah

(3) Grimnoor: just what i was looking at (1) Hussar: A couple of good trips and away you go. (3) Grimnoor: might as well get a cloud keel (2) Elias: Ok, do you have it written down somewhere what we've purchased Hussar? (2) Elias: in case we forget? (2) Elias: (which we prolly will) (8) Shadowdragon (enter): 09:47 (2) Elias: Hey Shadow ** (8) Shadowdragon says Hello Yet Again. ** (2) Elias: We're outfitting the ship (done really) (1) Hussar: Let's break up trade goods into four categories. Textiles, foodstuffs (includes spices), Finished goods, and... (2) Elias: (I hope) Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to (8) Shadowdragon... (3) Grimnoor: 3rd world peoples dont want food, they want beads (2) Elias: Sex Toys! (2) Elias: is what they want (1) Hussar: Why don't we make the fourth one non-essentials like beads and stuff. (2) Elias: Ok (1) Hussar: Textiles are 20 gp/ton, Foodstuffs 40 gp/ton Finished Goods 120 gp/ton and non essentials 50 gp/ton (3) Grimnoor: so lets give em a bunch of chairs (2) Elias: Argh (1) Hussar: I'm saving the buffer periodically, so we should have everything. (2) Elias: Heh (2) Elias: ok, so how many tons were left? (1) Hussar: Just shy of 200 (3) Grimnoor: what is something cheap that they make here in mithril? (1) Hussar: Say 185 (3) Grimnoor: besides crapy sewer systems (1) Hussar: Not sure. One second (2) Elias: so [185 / 4] -> 46 (2) Elias: of each? (2) Elias: [46 * 20] -> 920 [40*46] -> 1840 [46 * 120] -> 5520 [46 * 50] -> 2300 (2) Elias: I don't think we have that much (2) Elias: [920 + 1840 + 5520 + 2300] -> 10580 (2) Elias: well, that puts us in the hole... (1) Hussar: Foodstuffs may be a very bad idea considering the length of time you are travelling. You might want to leave those out. (2) Elias: [9514 - 10580] -> -1066 (1) Hussar: And that would put you back int he black (2) Elias: more textiles instead i say (2) Elias: [10580 - 1840 + 920] -> 9660 (2) Elias: so, that would leave us with (2) Elias: still in the black (2) Elias: [9514 - 9660] -> -146 (2) Elias: only 146 though (1) Hussar: Close enough. Mylo can make that up. (2) Elias: Ok (3) Grimnoor: good old mylo (2) Elias: (1) Hussar: So you have 92 tons textiles, 46 tons finished goods, and 46 tons non-essentials (2) Elias: correct (3) Grimnoor: so,now that we're broke again shall we be off? (2) Elias: and no alch fire... (2) Elias: (1) Hussar: I wondered if you noticed that. (2) Elias: not happy about that (2) Elias: We need a wand of fireballs or meteor swarm... (1) Hussar: Drop a few tons of textiles and pick up a couple of tons of alchemists fire. (3) Grimnoor: or lightning bolts to snap masts (2) Elias: ok, no idea what ach fire costs though (2) Elias: nodz (2) Elias: i figure meteor swar would eat up the sails (1) Hussar: One moment please (2) Elias: and catch fire to the deck (2) Elias: I got 800 gold on my own atm (2) Elias: I know i can't afford a wand for that...unless it's a lvl 1 (1) Hussar: Meteor Swarm can't be wanded but fireball can. (2) Elias: that's 225 per shot? (3) Grimnoor: again i ask if we should take up a colection (1) Hussar: A 5th level wand of fireballs is 11250 gp (2) Elias: *gasp* (1) Hussar: Yes, that is correct, 225/shot (2) Elias: damn... (2) Elias: guess we sail without fire... (1) Hussar: A large catapult shoots 2 shots / shot (3) Grimnoor: could we not teleport a bomb into their hold... (1) Hussar: You can go into debt. Haila was expecting you to borrow money. (2) Elias: hrm, wand of fireball (50 charges, right?) Or buy a whole bunch of Alch fire (3) Grimnoor: the wand would weigh less (2) Elias: let's see what's [225 * 50] -> 11250 (2) Elias: true (2) Elias: and less miss chance i think (2) Elias: wow, they cost the same (2) Elias: for 50 charge wand or 50 shots of Alch fire (2) Elias: I vote wand (3) Grimnoor: me2 (1) Hussar: Fireball has a range of 600 feet (1) Hussar: The alch fire has a range of 2000 feet (1) Hussar: Although you would never hit at that range (1) Hussar: Note, vehicles do not get saving throws/. (3) Grimnoor: if they get that close we will know its time to use the wand (2) Elias: yeah (1) Hussar: 600 feet would be six hexes on the battle map (2) Elias: I think the wand would overall be more usefull (3) Grimnoor: me2 (2) Elias: in out of ship combat also (1) Hussar: prolly true. (1) Hussar: So you are going to hit up Haila for 11250 gp? (2) Elias: anything else we need to add to that Grim, Shadow? (3) Grimnoor: i still say the church can go a week without a revivial (2) Elias: don't want to ask him for money twice (1) Hussar: Hrm? What's this about the church? Neuth Haila is the head of a trading house. (3) Grimnoor: well the church runs the town so i figure theyre good and loaded (2) Elias: He thinks the church should fund us (1) Hussar: True. You could get a loan from the church, but, why would they loan money to you? (3) Grimnoor: for all the times we almost got killed for their sorry asses (2) Elias: or DID get killed... (1) Hussar: The only time you worked for the church was when you saved the halfling. (3) Grimnoor: or got KOed... (1) Hussar: And that was in order to get transported to the ethereal plane. (3) Grimnoor: oh, and the pirate cave and the pirate hideout were nothing eh? (2) Elias: true... (1) Hussar: That was done for Neuth Haila. (1) Hussar: It had nothing to do with the church. (3) Grimnoor: the town benefited (2) Elias: Ok, let's hit him up for the money (3) Grimnoor: brass knuckles or classic? (8) Shadowdragon: face it getting money FROM a church is like getting blood from a turnip (3) Grimnoor: tell Pat Robertson that (1) Hussar: lol (3) Grimnoor: or the Pope... (3) Grimnoor: but i think my point has been made and duely noted (8) Shadowdragon: they don't get money FROM the church, they are the church (3) Grimnoor: are you suggesting we start our own church ? (1) Hussar: Okay, heading off this particular branch of discussion. (1) Hussar: : ) (8) Shadowdragon: ALL HAIL GRIMMNOR (8) Shadowdragon: (1) Hussar: You want to go to Haila? (2) Elias: yes (3) Grimnoor: Can I ghear a BOO YEAH from the congregation? (3) Grimnoor: Hailia it is (3) Grimnoor: AH! its Pat Robertsons ghost... oh wait (1) Hussar: Haila greets you warmly. (1) Hussar: Welcome friends. A new year is upon us. Are you ready to sail yet? (3) Grimnoor: Greeting Captain Hailia (2) Elias: We are almost ready sir, just need to finish outfitting our ship, that is why we have come to you (3) Grimnoor: ooc remember that poker money you owe us? (8) Shadowdragon: ooc and don't forget christmas bonuses (2) Elias: You had mentioned that we might be able to obtain a loan from you to aide us in refitting the ship (1) Hussar: I was expecting you. I must admit, you have been very resourceful in outfitting your ship. What is it called, the name has escaped me. (3) Grimnoor: The Tally-Wacker (2) Elias: (lol, OK) ** (2) Elias looks at Grimnoor surprised **

(1) Endil: so from stop, can go one hex round 1, 2 the second at a max of 7? (2) Hussar: It's unusual for Elias to be late. (2) Hussar: Yup. Depending on winds of course. (3) Grimnoor: oh he's a bit tied up at the moment... hehehehe (1) Endil: k (2) Hussar: Errm? (1) Endil: and the max at >120 and max at 60 is that fo wind speed? (2) Hussar: That's the number of degrees off the wind. (1) Endil: ok (2) Hussar: If you are sailing directly into the wind, you are at 0 (2) Hussar: Directly away is 180 (1) Endil: unless oared (1) Endil: k (4) Turjan (whispering): I did... (1) Endil: so on this ship my pilot bonus is +18? (2) Hussar: Yup. (1) Endil: k (2) Hussar: For certain things. (3) Grimnoor: hehehehehe... (1) Endil: i'll leave it as is for now and add the +5 for those certain things (2) Hussar: Good. (2) Hussar: In the interests of time and sanity, Endil is your Helmsman and Turjan is your backup helmsman and backup navigator. (4) Turjan: sorry macros test (2) Hussar: np (2) Hussar: XO Grimnoor, you wanna tell the newbies what they have signed on for? (4) Turjan: nice (3) Grimnoor: only if you loose a limb (1) Endil: ok (1) Endil: what's this speed node? (4) Turjan: whats the makeup of the party? Im a wiz, generalist without alot of combat related spells (1) Endil: Rogue (1) Endil: with rogue abilities (3) Grimnoor: Monk, Cleric, Bard, I forget what shadow is (2) Hussar: Currently there is a half orc Monk, a Human Bard, a Human Cleric, an elven rogue and a human wizzie. The rest of the crew is good for 1 share each. (2) Hussar: Note, you have not been hired to go wandering through the bush. (1) Endil: and i take it Turjan will be the ship mage when not anything else (2) Hussar: So you may wish to perform some additional negotiations if it comes to that. (3) Grimnoor: but you will prolly wind up doing that anyway (2) Hussar: Well, your captain seems to be feeling a little unwell, so has taken to bed. (2) Hussar: Turjan is navigating at the moment. Fresh meat is most welcome after weeks of hard tack. ** (1) Endil: eh? i'm an elf, not a bard ** (2) Hussar The sailors ask permission to break out the grog. ** (3) Grimnoor: I say half the crew can party, and they can party in shifts ** (2) Hussar Elias sings himself hoarse. ** (1) Endil: clear the lines? (4) Turjan: We should wait until the ship has been resupplied for that (1) Endil: oh, Elias (1) Endil: not a bad spelling of Endil ** (4) Turjan goes down to the hold to check on knuckles ** (3) Grimnoor: didnt we untie him? (2) Hussar: Knuckles has a good game of dice going. (1) Endil: we have dingies right? (3) Grimnoor: oh lol (2) Hussar: He seems to be winning. (3) Grimnoor: what of abel? (2) Hussar: You have a longboat. (1) Endil: who's he playing with? (2) Hussar: Rotating crewmen. (1) Endil: i want to take a look at the small islet we stopped at (2) Hussar: Able has come back to his senses and has appologized to you. (2) Hussar: It is getting dark, it might be a better idea to check it in the morning. ** (4) Turjan goes up top to where endil is ** (3) Grimnoor: the men who were under the effects of the spell are all pardoned (1) Endil (whispering): a ring of sustanace lets the wearer sleep for 2 hours instead of 8, for an elf would you alow 1 hour of revere for 4? (4) Turjan: Can I try to detect scrying? (4) Turjan: thats quite a range for a spell-10 days (1) Endil: nice whispering to Endil, just a sec (2) Hussar: Go ahead. (1) Endil: that would last till we land and then some if we have no distractions (4) Turjan: what should i use for the roll? (1) Endil: isn't it scry? whispering to Endil, sure (4) Turjan: im also going to use a few detect magics around the ship to see if anything was planted. (1) Endil (whispering): k (2) Hussar: You have had 30 days to do this, so I'll say that you find nothing magical on the ship. Also, you have detected no scrying. (1) Endil: what time is it? (2) Hussar: After sunset. (4) Turjan: got it (2) Hussar: About 8 pm. (3) Grimnoor: Do we have any sight of habbitation from the island? (4) Turjan: fires or visible somke? (1) Endil: this little island? (4) Turjan: smoke (4) Turjan: the big one. (2) Hussar: You see no smoke. (4) Turjan: distant sound of tiki drums? (2) Hussar: Of course, all you see are mountains WAY in the distance from the main island. It is twenty miles away. (2) Hussar: lol (2) Hussar: Umm, guys, we're going to have to wrap things up for today. (2) Hussar: This looks like a good place to stop. (4) Turjan: arrggghhh

Transcript for the week of October 23, 2003 Grimnoor: lol what'd he see? Hussar: Ok, Endil you see something at the edge of your low light vision. Hussar: It seems to be a very regular looking hump, some 15 feet across. It looks too smooth to be natural. Endil: what does it look like or can i make it out? Grimnoor: I look to where he is looking Endil: ya, i point it out Hussar: Stopping to look, you also listen. Endil: listen checks? Hussar: please Endil: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+11] -> [12,11] = Endil: still ok Hussar: You hear a slight buzzing noise coming from the mound. Endil: anything you've heard of? Endil: to grimnoor Endil: quietly Hussar: Grimnoor has never heard this sound either. Hussar: Sounds like a single, very large mosquito. Grimnoor: Whispering* i have heard tales... Grimnoor: *whispering* we should leave, they might be hostile to intruders... Endil: *whispering* what is it? Grimnoor: *whispering* no time to explain, or we may not leave this place for many years Endil: ok Endil: wispered Grimnoor: *whispering* or we should declare ourselves if we want to make contact Endil: *whispering* or that too Grimnoor: can you detect magic? Grimnoor: *whispered* Endil: *whispering* no, why would i? Endil: be able to Endil: or need to Grimnoor: *whispering* lets just go... better to leave without a fight Endil: *whispering* sure ** Grimnoor backs away fromthe mound ** ** Endil follows ** Hussar: Backing carefully away from the buzzing hill, you leave the top of the mountain. Hussar: You see nothing else of interest here. Endil: well, may as well head back to the ship now Grimnoor: can we spot anything on the water by moonlight? Hussar: Just your ship. Grimnoor: any other islands? Kelly: the reflection of the sun off the moon off the water Hussar: Just what's on your map. Grimnoor: k, so no campfires from the island or the like Endil: would be hard to see by moonlight Endil: so, what was that? Hussar: The island is quite a distance, but, now you see no fires. Grimnoor: i have heard of many creatures that make mounds their own Kelly: OOC - what is our primary goal in these waters? Sorry Grimnoor: OOC the treasure of SSkull island Grimnoor: er Skull Kelly: CCool Elias: oh, are they back? Hussar: You found a message in the pirate caves some time back. After you spent the winter refitting your ship, you decided to travel to this island in the idea of exploration and trade. Hussar: Yes, they are back. Grimnoor: i make my way back to the launch and then help row ack to the ship Kelly: ok tnx - ooc Grimnoor: ya Hussar: After a short nap, it is daytime again. Endil: ok Kelly: pray alone and meditate for spells Hussar: The map scale for those that missed it is 1=6 miles. Elias: Let's head to the island and skirt the coast until we find any signs of civilization or just settlement Hussar: You can travel about a little better than 1 hex per hour. Grimnoor: lets set to it then Hussar: You can make it to about here by the end of the day. Endil: k Hussar: I just sent you the node. Hussar: Look at the top of your game tree. Kelly: spell list? Hussar: That would be it. Hussar: Double click it and enter your spells. Hussar: Right click it and then send it to me. Hussar: Do we all have the map now? Hussar: That's about how far you can sail in 1 day. Hussar: (Which, btw, is day 31) Hussar: The weather is rainy and hot. Very, very humid. Elias: (how many days of ratoins did we buy? Grimnoor: One would wonder why we never seem to find a temperate climate to dwell in Hussar: Anyway. Hussar: Sailing is fairly straightforward. Elias: any signs of people inland? Hussar: You see no signs of habitation. The coastline is pretty mountainous though. Hussar: You also do not see any decent beaches. Elias: how many days of rations do we have left? Hussar: no. Hussar: You are getting short on food. However, there are plenty of fish and Kelly has been purifying water for you. Hussar: yes : ) Grimnoor: i was about to suggest we fish Elias: I was thinking of sending some hunting parties ashore Shadowdragon: Falen Shadowdragon. Ex-pirate current sorcerer Endil: ok Hussar: Another of your merry band. Hussar: I think I have enough players now. Elias: yup Elias: I forgot how many marines we hired, how many was it? Shadowdragon (whispering): i forget, who's captain of this new vessel of ours? Hussar: You have just over 150 people on board including marines, artillerists and crew. Elias: I'm talking just marines Hussar: Captain Elias, Do you wish to send hunting parties ashore. Grimnoor: he means for an away team Hussar: You have 32 marines Elias: yes, but i was wondering how many i needed to send Elias: ok, 3 parties of 5 Elias: rest stay on board Elias: they are also scouting Endil: just wondering? is that volcano south of us active? Hussar: Are you going to send them to the main island or to the active volcano island to the south? Endil: active Elias: Main island Grimnoor: id suggest the main island as well Elias: (I don't see anything happening in the way of food or habitation on the active volcano island Grimnoor: ooc Unless you wanna try you hand at hunting red dragons Elias: we Can however send a party over there if it seems promising Hussar: Or sacrificing virgins to the volcano gods. Elias: ooc be plenty to eat Hussar: It doesn't look too interesting. Kelly: Joe-noor vs. the Volcano Elias: Ok, to the main island it is Hussar: And it is 15 miles away. Elias: hehe Grimnoor: lol Grimnoor: wheres tom hanks when you need him Kelly: lol Hussar: Your hunting parties come back after about an hour or so. It has gotten too dark to hunt. They bring back some strange looking fruit but little else. Kelly: ooc - is the scratched out Tally where our ship is? Hussar: Yes Endil: ya Elias: ooc - the fruit is edible? Hussar: His Majesty's Ship, the Tallywacker. Hussar: You don't know. Endil: only one way to find out isn't there Hussar: No one has eaten it Kelly: yeah read the website - good majestic name Elias: ooc would detect poison tell us? Hussar: You think so. Kelly: I can just purify it Kelly: b/c I don't have detect poison Endil: does that remove natural toxins? Hussar: Yes. Endil: ok Elias: i thought i had it, but guess i don't Kelly: yes Turjan: i have detect poison Kelly: do it up Turjan Endil: ooc hey, grim, do you have poison immunity yet? Hussar: Turjan detects poison. Hussar: The fruit is not poisonous. Turjan: ok Turjan waves his hands and casts detect poison Kelly: let me change the list again Endil: well, eat up Hussar: The fruit looks like this. Endil: that does so not look like a mango Hussar: The outside is inedible, like an orange, but the inside is very sweet. Elias: is it any good? Grimnoor: leme see Endil: if that is what it's supposed to be Hussar: Mangosteen, not a mango. Elias: oooooh Endil: ok Hussar: Thai fruit. Kelly: ummm....I like Thai food Hussar: The fruit is a big hit. Endil: so we found a new route to thailand Kelly: pulls out his +2 wok and whips up a fish and fruit stir fry Hussar: lol Turjan: maybe we can start a plantation Elias: Perhaps this can be what we trade for Grimnoor: we should take some seeds home with us Endil: we don't know how this grows Hussar: The night passes uneventfully. Elias: uh, oh, we're all dead Endil: it could be invasive Grimnoor: ooc btw i dont get immunity to poison till 11th level, i am however immune to disease Endil: ok Grimnoor: couldnt hurt to take some along Elias: I instruct the crew to spit all the seeds into a certain barrel Kelly: lets monitor is decay rate to see how long it will keep in the hold Kelly: its* Elias: I take a couple and put them in my cabin to study Hussar: The marines say that there were lots of these things growing everywhere. Elias: ooc did they pick these up off the ground, or from the tree/bush that they grow on? Kelly: maybe we should load up before we leave or explore in case we need to make a quick getaway Grimnoor: well, we shant starve to death yet then Kelly: if they start to spoil, I can make a nice wine out of them Elias: we can load up on them in the morning if need be Hussar: They took them off a tree. Hussar: The evening passes uneventfully. Elias: It did not look like a plantation or anything did it, just growing wild?

Hussar: Just growing wild. They only saw animal tracks. Hussar: Although, some of the tracks, they had never seen before. Kelly: lets let the marines pick some more and we can explore/hunt for meat Hussar: Three toed and big. Elias: Ok, let's spend a couple more hours gathering, then resume skimming the coast line Elias: OH Endil: brb Elias: interesting Hussar: You stock up on the strange fruit and continue on your way. ** Elias sends out the hunter/gatherer parties once again, with instructions to be back on board ready to leave at high sun ** Shadowdragon: Were the tracks reptilian? Hussar: You mean noon? Elias: yeah, or as soon as they get back Elias: which ever is sooner Hussar: The marine says, "Well, I dunno, never seen tracks like that before. Bigger than a man and certainly heavier. Two legged though. Fast I'd say. Grimnoor: Hmmm... Grimnoor: no one should venture off alone Hussar: [6d6] -> [5,1,5,5,3,4] = Elias: strange news Kelly: could even be a large bird such as a giant ostrich Hussar: The weather continues wet and humid. Hussar: What's that padre? Says the marine. Shadowdragon: was there evidence of clawed feet or smooth like a bear Kelly: the three toed tracks could be caused by a large non-flight bird Shadowdragon: nm Hussar: ooc, bears have clawed feet. Endil: ooc back Grimnoor: it matters not unless we actualy meet one of these creatures Hussar: I really don't know what made those tracks. Nothing I ever seen before. Says the Marine. Elias: ok, raise anchor and set sail Elias: skim the coast Shadowdragon: ooc yes but their feet are padded and the claws dont touch the pads in the tracks Endil: skiming will take us longer Hussar: Since you lost half a day gathering fruit, you can make it to about here by nightfall. Elias: we are looking for villages Elias: if we don't stay close to the coast, we will not see them Hussar: You have several villages marked on your map. Elias: ? Elias: where are they? Endil: circled Grimnoor: lets skin but skip over the vast stretches of empty sea Hussar: Next day Elias: set coarse for the village to the north Elias: instead of the coast Hussar: You can reach that today. Elias: i was under the impression we did not know Elias: anything Elias: but where the island was Kelly: Tally-Ho Endil: the dotted line is a path or road? Hussar: You follow the coastline, looking for somewhere to land. It takes you the better part of the day to tack your way to the southern end of the island where your chart marks settlements. True to your charts, you spot smoke on the horizon. Grimnoor: I climb the crowsnest and look about for signs of life Elias: Tally-WACK! Hussar: As you near the village, you see several small boats come out to meet you. Dual hulled catamarans zip out towards you. Through your telescope, you see that none of them are armed. As they get closer, you get your first glimpse of the inhabitants of the island. Grimnoor: I climb down Elias: AHOY! Hussar: The short figures are obviously dwarves, but are unlike any dwarves you have seen. They seem to be covered in downy fur with tattooed stripes running along their faces and on their skin. They are much more slender than normal dwarves, although they are still stocky. They handle the catamarans with practiced ease and you can tell they have spent much time around the water. Grimnoor: any shrunken heads? Endil: maybe me and the half-orc should stay out of sight for a while Shadowdragon: ??Aquatic Dwarves?? ** Grimnoor pulls up his hood ** Endil: i take it we are the only non humans ** Elias thinks to himself ** Kelly: yes shrunken heads - buy hey the water is cold ** Elias motions for Endil and Grim to be out of sight ** Kelly: but* Elias: ... Hussar: Yes, endil and Grim are the only non humans. Hussar: lol ** Endil nods and heads belowdeck ** Elias: AHOY! ** Grimnoor follows ** ** Elias walks to the side they are approaching ** Kelly: **Waves to the natives with open hands** Turjan: ***Turjan follows*** Hussar: The catamarans circle the Talleywacker and the strange dwarves wave at you. Hussar: Finally, one pulls alongside. Shadowdragon: staying close to elias Elias: Move the ship to a good spot and drop Anchor Grimnoor: OOC We come in peace *aside* shoot to kill... Shadowdragon: try not to hit the dwarves with it Endil: who's at the helm now? Elias: um Hussar: You drop the anchor over the side, avoiding the catamarans. Hussar: Now that you are anchored, you don't need a helmsman. Hussar: (oops) ** Elias motion for the crew to drop a rope ladder over the side for them to board ** ** Elias whisper to the marines to be warry ** Hussar: One of the dwarves scrambles nimbly up the ladder. Hussar: He is dressed in a simple loincloth. Elias: Greetings, I am Captain of the TallyWacker Kelly: ooc - oh man, not a cool mental image Elias: Elias is my name Elias: ooc that's what i was thinking Hussar: Dwhear. whindfre I t gr to lake fathours l lch}, ir}, wa. sh} andshe vis f a. the to yo Pl s s} coursh}, Fitho cofrathe. tite ol fr pakeslces s {Tisheancom fro gs. Elias: gotta look it up for specifics on the spell though Grimnoor: ooc higher levels Hussar: Lucky boy. Turjan: Turjan looks to Elias "I have a spell that may aid us" Hussar: I am {Sings With Fish}, speaker for the {Tiger Dwarves} clan. We welcome you to the island of Moranana. My chief wishes you to come ashore. He wishes to meet those who come from the old lands. Please, feel free to anchor in our harbour. A feast is being prepared in your honour. You are the first visitors from the old lands since the {Windy Water} in my great grandfather's time. Turjan: Windy Water? Elias: *bows low* Endil: hurricane maybe?

Elias: I restate what i said earlier now that he can understand ** Grimnoor i bandage up my face and hands down in the hold ** Hussar: You remember that the captain of the map you have was named Breezewater. Elias: We would love to come ashore, it has been many days since we have set foot on land Turjan: baw weep nah nah neene graw ** Endil coveres his ears with his hair ** Grimnoor: o wakka oo mow mow oh oh oh oh, shama lamalama ding dong Hussar: ah, the old vulcan trick/. Endil: those are the most identifing traits Elias: I motion for the most of the crew to stay aboard, only indicating certain peple (ooc- PC's) to come ashore Elias: ooc nice grim Hussar: You lower a longboat and row ashore. Grimnoor: whopboba loobob balop bam boom Kelly: grab one of the wrapped sticks out of my cabin I made on the cruise Endil: Jala cahallin xal tlu elg'cahlin Endil: ha Elias: I explain to the dwarf that in a while i will not be able to understand his language any longer Grimnoor: ooga chaka ooga chacka Hussar: BTW, your tongues spell will last for about an hour. Elias: 40 minutes Kelly: I got this feeling, deep inside of me Elias: i'll only have one more casting Endil: Oloth plynn dos! Grimnoor: ilblith yomama Turjan: nice! Hussar: You are led to a well kept village a short distance from the shoreline. Elias: nice pic Grimnoor: indeed Kelly: on the way look at the gray material - what is it? Hussar: You are brought to the center of the village. A group of the strange dwarves come forward. One male dwarf is wearing an elaborate torc of what appear to be teeth of some large creature. He holds both of his hands, palm inward, to his forehead and then opens them to you. Hussar: Supposed to be water. Kelly: return the gesture with a smile Endil: L'alurl gol zhah elghinyrr gol Endil: ooc Grimnoor: i keep my hood down and my cloak wrapped about me Endil: following Grimnoor: ooc don't make me go get my dictionary Elias: ooc you sure it is wise to use his gestures? when you have no idea what they mean? Hussar: He looks like this. Kelly: ooc - true - too late now Endil: likely a greeting ** Elias return the gesture and then bow afterwards ** Grimnoor: ooc raise your middle finger and thrust your arm upwards under your other arm Kelly: I may be marrying his fat daughter for all i know - OOC Hussar: lol Turjan: thats great1 Elias: Greetings, I am Elias, Captain of the TallyWacker Endil: now that looks freaky Elias: ooc omg, i think we should head back to Mitril... Endil: are those, fangs? Hussar: Yes. Hussar: Those would be fangs. Endil: and whiskers? Kelly: is there a tinman and scarecrow too? Hussar: ooc this is a real person by the way. Isn't plastic surgery wonderful. Hussar: I greet you in the name of the {Walks through trees} clan. I am {Sand Pebble}, chief of the clan. In the name of sister moon and brother wind, I greet you. In the name of cousin wave and cousin mountain, I greet you. May your water be at peace. Endil: some type of cat/dwarf/vampire Grimnoor: ooc oh great, more treehuggers Elias: I greet you also {Sand Pebble} Elias: We have traveled many days to reach your lands, and am eager to talk with you Grimnoor: ooc don't roll a 1 on your deplomacy check please Elias: ooc lol Hussar: You are welcome in our homes long one. It was in my father's time when {Windy Water} came to us. Grimnoor: ooc i like their name for us Hussar: We saw your ship and prepared for your coming. Elias: ooc i think that's the name of the guy who came here last Endil: ooc maybe windy water was a person Hussar: Tomorrow there will be a great feast in your honour. Elias: You do us too much honor {sand Pebble} Grimnoor: ooc no, long one ** Elias bows again ** Hussar: Come. We have much to discuss. Hussar: You are taken into the large central building. The ceilings are high and airy. Many windows allow the ocean breeze to pass through. The dwarves sprawl on the floor upon many cushions and motion for you to do the same. Fruits and raw fish are brought to you and laid around you on the floor. The dishes are made of wood but cunningly polished and glazed. Elias: I regret there is a limit to the ability to understand your language, it is quite new to us, I will only have a limited time each day that we will be able to understand one another ** Elias smiles and follows him ** Grimnoor: I fold my legs and sit Endil: does the fruit look like the other stuff? Kelly: Follow them, but do not eat until requested to do so Hussar: We understand and we have prepared for this problem. {Windy Water} had the same problem. Our shaman will be able to help. Elias: I imitate what {sand pebble} is doing Hussar: He tucks into the food. Hussar: Talking as he eats. ** Grimnoor accepts any food i am given, but ask for more fruit than raw fish ** Kelly: tucks? ** Endil sits but does not eat ** Elias: I also begin to eat after he does Kelly: begin to eat and smile Hussar: begins eating. Sorry, too much time around aussies. Elias: after eating is my spell still holding? Elias: ooc ** Grimnoor eats with a calm politeness and neatly keeps cface under hood ** Hussar: Sometime during the meal, the spell fails. Kelly: right after the sorbet Elias: when i finish eating, i recast the spell Hussar: A female dwarf enters. She is very obviously female since she is stripped to the waist. What you took for tattoos, you realize are actual colorations on her skin. Her, for lack of a better work, fur is a lustrous yellow and covers her entire body. Elias: {Sand Pebble} May i tell you of our journey to this place, I am known as a musician in my land, and would love to regale you with the tale. ** Elias bowing low ** Hussar: {Sand Pebble} smiles and says to go ahead. whispering to Falen Shadowdragon, hey Endil: that looks interesting ** Elias sings of our journey describing the huge turtle and all the stuff that happened when i wasn't here including the heroics of the ones surrounding me ** Elias: Raises his voice in song! [1d20 +14] -> [12,14] = Falen Shadowdragon (whispering): hey, couldn't get my dialer to start when i lost connection. still learning some stuff about my new win me. Grimnoor: ooc the wind rider whispering to Falen Shadowdragon, np Endil: ooc ya some heroics... Hussar: The dwarves applaud by slapping the bottoms of their feet with their hands. Endil: on my part anyway Hussar: Several cheer. Kelly: one man's epic story is another Elias's exaggeration Elias: ooc yah, fill in the blanks, sorry for no details Elias: ooc exactly correct ** Elias bows and returns to sitting ** ** Elias making sure to nod and smile at the late arrival of the female dwarf ** Hussar: The female dwarf stands, "One tale deserves another. You have told us how you came here and I shall return the favor." Endil: ooc: do you use an instument or just sing? Grimnoor: ooc so are we at war with these people yet? Hussar: She begins to chant Kelly: give her my full attention ** Elias i translate for all who need it ** Kelly: I need it please Hussar: We came to this land many generations ago. We were unlike our {Stonecutter} cousins. We longed for the open air and the freedom that could not be found under the rocks. So, we built great houses and set out from the lands of cold stone. Our houses carried us far, to this place. When we landed, we burned the houses in thanks to the Ocean Mother for bringing us here. We lived for a time on this southern tip of the island, gathering and hunting as we needed. Living a life of freedom. Grimnoor: ooc: the dwarves mustve banished these hippies Kelly: Elias are you sure you translated that correctly?> Hussar: But, this island is not without its dangers. The {Snakes with Legs} and the {Lions} started to hunt us. And there were many natural dangers as well. The great lizards on the main island are stupid but very dangerous and always hungry. We built a great wall across the neck of our lands to stop them from coming. That was many, many years ago. Now, we fish and raise our crops and live as we wish, free from the threats to the north. Sometimes raiding parties come across the wall, but, we can deal with those. Endil: yuan-ti? Hussar: From the description, it's possible. Endil: ooc: are they present in this world? ** Elias nods at Kelly ** Grimnoor: ooc has grimnor heard of yuanti in his studies at the monastary? Hussar: You've never heard of them in Mithril, but there are stories of snakelike creatures. Hussar: The chief continues Hussar: where the shaman left off Hussar: The chief speaks up, "There are other tribes on the island as well. The {Talking Frogs} and the {Ant Builders} have claimed their own territories. Kelly: ask about buzzing mounds Elias - I whisper Elias: ooc ok Hussar: Neither the chief nor the shaman recognize what you are talking about. ** Elias asks about the buzzing mounds, using descriptions given by grim and Endil **

** Elias shrugs to Kelly ** Elias: Are you at peace with the other clans? Kelly: **smiles and nods** Hussar: All of the {Tiger Dwarves} are at peace with eachother. Grimnoor: ooc the tigre lady looks like Chakka from Land of the Lost Elias: This is good to hear Hussar: The other tribes usually leave us alone since they cannot easily cross the wall. Elias: I suggest trade between our peoples Elias: **I list off all of the trade good we brought, asking if they would be interested in any of it** Endil: ooc: talking frogs, similarity: Salaad, Ant Builders, similarity: Formians Hussar: We would welcome that. There is precious little metal on this island and we could use some new tools. Elias: ooc - i just hope we have what they need Grimnoor: ooc could be bullywugs Hussar: And I'm sure our women would appreciate the other things too. Hussar: I may lose Hussar: I may lose my connection Hussar: Am I back? Hussar: am I backa? Elias: You are a most gracious host {Sand Pebble} Grimnoor: ooc i can't possibly handle every tigrer lady on the island Kelly: Elias please ask if I may later talk to the Shaman or if that is taboo Elias: you are Hussar: Cool. Elias: i ask for Kelly Hussar: Certainly. I'm sure they have much to discuss. Kelly: Elias did you see my message about the shaman? OOC Elias: yup Endil: sorrey, got diconected Elias: did you see Hussar's reply? Kelly: no Elias: he said yes Kelly: ty Elias: afk for a minute Endil: the last thing was talking about bullywugs ooc Endil: that i saw Hussar: Sheesh, people are dropping like flies. Grimnoor: Im alive Hussar: NOthing much else. Elias wished to talk to the shaman. Endil: ok Kelly: spot - [1d20 + 4} - do they seem to pay any attention to our non-human party members? Hussar: Not really. Elias: no, Kely did Grimnoor: ooc maybe you should ask them what they think of orcs Elias: i just asked for him Elias: am i the only one not getting disconnected? Grimnoor: im here Endil: unplug your phone Hussar: Will try that. Endil: i get a long pause when that happens Hussar: Anyway, I've unplugged my phone, so hopefully it's better now. Hussar: going again Hussar: maybe Kelly: damn that Grimnoor and his fax machine Hussar: Woot still here Elias: cool Hussar: phone is ringing Hussar: YAY It's stopped. Falen Shadowdragon: What did i miss? Hussar: ANd I'm still here!!! Elias: lol, congrats Hussar: Anyway, is there anything else you would like to ask the chief? Grimnoor: ooc so when do we start exploiting these island dwarves? Elias: I don't think so Elias: we can work out specifics later Grimnoor: ooc k Elias: are there any laws Elias: that we may be unfamiliar with Turjan: Did we bring tobacco? Elias: I do not wish my men being obtrusive Grimnoor: Opium is always a good one Kelly: man cast tongues on myself so I know the meaning of obtrusive Kelly: LOL - j/k Hussar: Simply respect others and we should have no problems. Oh, and do not open the gate in the wall. Have a giant lizard eat your family often offends. Elias: Of course ** Elias bows low ** Endil: one would think so Grimnoor: ooc maybe in some countries... Hussar: During the party, a group of dwarves has begun construction of a number of huts for your men. ** Elias looks amazed ** Hussar: In a surprisingly short time, long bungalows of bamboo are constructed. Turjan: Wow this i s Turjan: is great Elias: I have two of the guys go back and get all but a skeleton crew and bring them here ** Elias nods a Kelly ** Grimnoor: The idustrius nature of these people is relflected to their offspring as well it seems Hussar: The crew comes ashore. They look very happy to be on a beach and nothing trying to eat them. Elias: we will take turns sleeping on the ship Elias: Shifts by day instead of hour ** Hussar Crewman - "Captain, does that mean we can't sleep on shore?" ** Elias: including PC's (need officers aboard at least some of the time( Hussar: ooc, I hear Mylo wants to take ALL the shipboard duties. Elias: Only when not on shift Elias: during your shift you will be onboard Elias: but, that should only be ever 2-4 nights Hussar: ah. Elias: lol, Mylo sure can Endil: if we're even here that long Hussar: You will need to be here for some time. Elias: so crew is landside for a couple days, then takes a day on board, or something, however the numbers work out Hussar: Your quartermaster estimates it will take at least a month to resupply with dried fish and stuff. Elias: Ok Endil: ok Hussar: Also, the ship will need some repairs. Turjan: one month! Kelly: **strictly caution the crew to behave themselves** Hussar: Nothing major, just minor stuff like caulking etc. Elias: I think some of us should send representatives to the other clans for trade agreements Elias: but not for at least a week Hussar: It takes a while to dry out and salt 12 tons of food. Elias: yah Kelly: unless we kill a couple of those lizards Elias: are they edible? Elias: or rather, do we WANT to eat them? Endil: well, almost anything is Turjan: maybe they are fru Elias: We need to find out what we can take back to Mithril that will make this worth the trip Elias: (trade goods that is) Endil: yes i did see that but forget what it says Elias: um, i don't get it, what do i do with it? Elias: it's blank? Hussar: The great city on the plateau is home to the {Snakes with Legs}. They have amassed a vast fortune in their temples. Endil: go pearl diving Turjan: no water breathing Endil: thats a while Elias: wow Hussar: That is divisible between other people Elias: oh, that's cool Hussar: So 10 people for 1 hour, 5 for 2 etc Kelly: ok so 30 hours per day Endil: 5 hours each/day Hussar: That's a LOT of pearl diving. Endil: ya Hussar: And you can go a lot deeper than the dwarves can. Grimnoor: all the more pearls Kelly: and we can eat the oysters Hussar: bleckk Hussar: I hate oysters. Kelly: food for the crew Grimnoor: lol i love em Elias: Ok, let's have some of the marines assist Kelly (they need to earn their keep) Kelly: we could smoke them, but they are hard to keep lit Grimnoor: : p Hussar: I imagine the locals might be a little pissed if you clear out their pearl beds, but if you go deeper, they can't complain. Elias: yeah, deeper Grimnoor: ooc pearlbeads grow back, heads do not Elias: in fact, they can travel to a different part of the bay Endil: maybe in a little while, we could invest in an appuratus of kwalish Endil: well, back to the game Elias: ooc why is no one talking? Hussar: sorry, pee break Elias: ah Grimnoor: lol, good reason Hussar: In the morning, you awaken to the smells of wonderful cooking. You see that the village women are preparing a great feast for the coming party tonight. Food is brought to you and then you are directed towards a gathering on the edge of town. Kelly: Once the dinner breaks up, I will approach the Shaman. Hussar: Oops, sorry, jumped the gun Kelly: Introduce myself. I too am a magic user for our group. Hussar: Kelly, you wanted to talk to the shaman. Hussar: She says a few words then touches you. Kelly: I have brought you a present from my God. Hussar: There, you can speak my language now. Endil: ugh, missionaries Kelly: ty Grimnoor: lol Elias: ooc lol Hussar: "My name is {Swims with Snakes} and I am the {Walks through Trees} {Shaman}. Kelly: I hand her the stick wrapped in cloth I brought from the ship Hussar: She unwraps the cloth. What does she see?

Kelly: I am Kelly, holy Cleric of Corean Kelly: This is a torch for you that will never go out or burn the wood Kelly: I would like you to have it Endil: ooc whenever i have accesss to continual flmae, one of the other party memebers eventually ends up covered in them Kelly: One magic-user to another, is there anything I should know about this or other areas you know of concerning magic Kelly: geographical areas I mean Hussar: She takes the torch gravely. "I thank you, Priest. I am ashamed. I have nothing for you." Kelly: information can help me and is a gift more worthy than mine Hussar: I am unsure what you are asking. What do you wish to know? Grimnoor: ooc shoudla asked for the island Endil: do you mean sparks and the like? Kelly: do you have any knowlege concerning magic in these waters or islands? Kelly: magic or magical items or races Hussar: Oh. No, the taint has not reached this far. Kelly: what is the taint? Kelly: and yes I know guys what it really is Endil: ask about the snakes with legs Hussar: The piceans occasionally bring us news of the other lands. Endil: after Kelly: k Hussar: The taint which has scourged your seas, has not reached this far. Kelly: oic Hussar: The waters here are clear and clean. They provide us with fish and pearls. Kelly: can you tell me anything about the snakes with legs? where they live? there activities? their language? Hussar: The Snakes with Legs live on a plateau in the center of the island. Do you have a map? Kelly: yes your waters are the best I have ever seen Kelly: no but one would help me if you could provide a map Endil: i think we do have a map... Hussar: We have no maps of the lands beyond the wall. We have no need. We know where things are. Kelly: show her the map we have Kelly: can you show me where things are located? Hussar: She quickly sketches on your map. Kelly: and I will make notes Elias: (perhaps you could have her make some marks on our map?) Hussar: Here is the plateau of the Snakes with legs. Kelly: yes I see Endil: that's a ways inlands Kelly: are there any other landmarks you can show me ? Hussar: Here is the forest of the Ants that Build. Endil: one of the other clans Hussar: Here are the mountains of the Lions Kelly: are the ants friendly? are the snakes with legs friendly? are the lions friendly? Endil: the talking frogs too Kelly: and the talking frogs? Hussar: Neither are friendly. Both hunt our kind. Hussar: The Frogs that Talk are here. Kelly: I am sorry to hear that Endil: ask abou the lions Kelly: what is beyond the snake mound? Hussar: There is a large lake here, surrounded by a swamp. Kelly: I did ask about the lions Kelly: I mark the map with the names Hussar: The Lions are unfriendly and hunt any who enter their land. Kelly: b/c I won't remember Kelly: oh Endil: i'll set up a map Kelly: were they here when your clan arrived Hussar: The Ants that Built take our people as slaves. Kelly: that is terrible - If I am able to have the opportunity, I will help to free any of your people who are captive Hussar: The Lions were the first here. Driven here many many years ago. Then came the Snakes with Legs, then the Frogs that Talk then us, the Tiger Dwarves. Kelly: where did they come from in your legends? Hussar: Last came the Ants that Build, the Ghants, and took the jungles to the west Endil (whispering): can you send me the map? i'll set up the areas Kelly: are all of these species intelligent? whispering to Endil, Can't you see the map? Hussar: Can everyone see the map? Kelly: can you communicate with them like you did me? Hussar: All of the tribes of the island can speak. Except for the Great Lizards. Kelly: what lies beyond the snake mound? Endil (whispering): forgot about that Hussar: Unclaimed land as far as I know. None of our people go there. Kelly: oic Hussar: Mostly great lizards. Hussar: Oh yes, and the Great Elder Wyrm... Kelly: would it offend your clan or gods if we harvested pearls from the deeper beds or up the coast? Hussar: hehe just kidding. Kelly: lol Hussar: I see no problems with that. Just be careful of the snakes and the sharks. Endil: what about the viliges to the south? Kelly: are the snakes poisoneous? Hussar: Very. Kelly: do you have an antidote? Shadowdragon: do the snakes taste good? Hussar: No. But magic does work. Hussar: Yes, it does. Grimnoor: how strong are the defenses on the wall, and how numerous are the tiger dwarves is what i wander. Kelly: ask grimnoor's question Hussar: This village you would guess has about 75 to 100 adults in it. Hussar: We have defended ourselves quite well. Kelly: yes it would seem so Kelly: your clan is prospering Hussar: Also, it is some distance for the other tribes to come. Kelly: what type of goods besides metal would yours and the other tribes be interested in? Hussar: We are far from their territories. Grimnoor: i know that either the ants of the snakes would attempt to destroy potential opponents id they detected weakness Grimnoor: er if Hussar: The Ghants never venture beyond their jungle. At least we have never seen them. Kelly: are there any shiny stones or metals on the island? Hussar: We would be interested in trading anything. Hussar: You mean jewels? Kelly: maybe like these - and I show her my ruby ring Kelly: yes jewels Hussar: I have heard that there is a very nice quartzite deposite running under some of the hills. Or it could be hematite. Kelly: oic Hussar: (These are dwarves.) Kelly: ok Kelly: was not sure if that knowledge was lost over the years Hussar: She smiles. While we no longer live as our stone dwelling cousins, we are hardly savages. Kelly: ooc - any other questions guys? Kelly: oh no, you are not savages Kelly: your knowledge and experience in many areas exceeds those of my clan Endil: the other vilages Kelly: I asked about what the other villages would want to give and receive in trade Kelly: but no answer Endil: ok Kelly: she said they are up the coast Hussar: Oops, sorry. Hussar: The other villages would be interested in anything you had to trade. Kelly: oh ok Kelly: do you know of a contact person in any of these villages to get us started with trading? Endil: ooc gha, i would really like double monoters right now ** Hussar ooc, remember that you had a trade deal with Neuth Haila, your former employer and head of the Trading Company for 5% royalties for establishing a trade route. ** Hussar: Why? Kelly: b/c we would like to come back and trade in the future possibly Hussar: The other villages will come here, and trade with you. Kelly: and we would like to bring you what you can use Kelly: how can we arrange such a meeting? Hussar: Yeah, guys, I would like to say that my time is getting short. Hussar: You are going to be here for a month. Meeting will not be a problem. Kelly: ok - give me the reader's digest version Kelly: I compliment her, invite her to talk more over breakfast, and suggest talking about magic possibly Hussar: The next day Hussar: In the morning, you awaken to the smells of wonderful cooking. You see that the village women are preparing a great feast for the coming party tonight. Food is brought to you and then you are directed towards a gathering on the edge of town. Kelly: thank you for your wonderous gift, now I am the one embarrassed Kelly: head to the gathering ** Grimnoor follows ** Hussar: At the edge of town you see that the dwarves are cutting down several trees and stripping them of branches. As you watch, a skeleton of a wagon is lashed together and placed on a wagon. Several of the dwarves look and you and smile. Many others point to the growing floats and then point to you and your crew. Some of the dwarves break off and motion for you to imitate what the rest are doing. ** Elias goes to the gathering ** ** Elias follow their instructions ** Kelly: help them with what they are doing
